What people in one state vote for is irrelevant if they are going cap in hand to the rest of the EU. The rest of the EU have their own voters to think about.

One could similarly argue that the UK is 'undemocratic' on the basis that (say) the population of the Liverpool Metropolitan Area overwhelmingly voted in favour of the Labour Party, and yet their views have been entirely ignored and the UK has a Conservative government.

But that's what union means.

Incidentally, I think that relative size of Merseyside to the UK is about the same as Greece is to the EZ.
