Unfriend someone of facebook - will they be notified?

Hi all,

There is a 'friend' who is a distant relation on facebook. I accepted in the early days of my account but their thinking is not on my wave length and their daily posts make me feel quite sad and frustrated.

I am thinking I should just give myself a break and defriend them, however I am concerned they will be sent a notification to that effect.

Can anyone confirm what the process is to defriend please at both ends?

Thanks

They wont be `notified` and will only realize if they send you a message. If he/she doesn't message you, they may not notice for some time. HTH
  • Why don't you just reduce the notifications you get from them, or block them?

De-friending is quiet easy, but permanent. They won't get a notification though when it happens.

Blocking someone also defriends them. I'd just defriend her, if she's not someone you interact with in real life, and don't have particularly close ties do why feel bad about it? Chances are she won't even notice, and so what if she does?
  • You can choose not to see their posts any more (I've done this with relatives who are into Herbalife or similar and selling all the time). Choose 'I don't want to see posts' (or something) from the drop down menu at the top right corner of the posts and they'll stop appearing on your timeline but you'll still be friends.

But no, they will not be notified if you unfriend them.
  • Just checked - it's actually 'Unfollow *person*' in the drop down menu on the top right of any of their posts.

Unfollowing is probably the best thing. It avoids petty arguments over unfriending. I unfollow everyone, I'm surprised I still have a news feed! :rotfl:

As Patchwork Girl says you can just "unfollow" someone. I've done that for some real life friends who just moan on Facebook on a daily basis. I've "unfriended" those who post Britain First and other racist posts as I have no interest in having these people in my life. They aren't notified and in one case I don't think the person even noticed they'd been "unfriended" as months later I got a friend request again.

Unfollow and you don't see their drivel on your newsfeed, but they can still see your posts.

Block them and they can't see anything that you post -they can't even find you.

Limit them (think you need to do this from PC not phone) and you can restrict what they see about you.

Just unfollow the person on your homepage click the little clog icon and it says unfollow. You won't see any posts from them any more unless you search and click on their page.

    Much easier solution works wonders!

They should have realised you were no longer their friend if they had to send you a friend request again. They may notice at some point in the future that they have been defriended.

I found out my ex-neighbour had defriended me because I didn't invite her to my house warming party in my new house. I didn't realise she had been offended until mutual friends were talking about some rubbish she had put on facebook and I realised I couldn't see it.
