Hyundai handbrake failure

Faulty handbrake adjustment. Reason is if it managed to damage the other car, it suggests that the last notch was only ever capable of just about holding the car still. In fifty years of driving I have never and would never drive a car that the handbrake had to be touching the headlining to make it stand still . If you had bought a mini ,you would have handbrake on second notch, and after enjoying driving a superior car and parking up for the night you would not have to go to the next village to find it:rotfl:
mini (BINI?) and superior car in the same sentence?...;)0 -
Yes the ash tray is multi function. The Germans and the Brits have it all under control. You too could be one of the superior beings if you could only see:rotfl:0

'course, for all we know the OP's son does own a Bini. The Hyundai is a hire car from his insurers...0

Apply the footbrake when applying the handbrake and always leave it in gear.
Why do they not teach this anymore?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

I second this."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
I did something similar in a Sainsbury's car park years ago. Parked near the entrance and went inside to do my shopping. I came out to find the town centre in gridlock because some idiot hadn't set his parking brake properly and his car had rolled forwards stopping anybody getting into the car park.
I was sorely tempted to leave it and get the bus home.0 -

I think they do, but people don't understand why and so can't be bothered.
Some people pass their test and keep learning, others pass the test and then forget how to drive.
Leaving it parked in gear has been common knowledge almost since the car was invented.
Also, turning the wheels toward or away from the kerb (decline/incline) is actually enough to hold most cars even without the handbrake, so do this + the above and it'll never move.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

...and, if you park with wheels towards the kerb, it won't go anywhere even if the handbrake does fail to hold it - or if it gets hit whilst parked.0

But alas not how people are taught. Youngest (and possibly dopiest !) sister got caught out after her Dad drove her car. She parks as taught, handbrake on and out of gear. He parked it as they have always parked their cars on their level drive for the last 40 years ... in gear and handbrake off.
It was a hot day, windows left open. Rather than get in the hot car she leant in through the window, inserted key, started car to get the air con going ... :eek:0 -
As a side bonus, parking with wheels turned, will often make drivers give you more space, because at a glance it looks as though you could be about to pull out.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
