Does anyone have advice for catering for my lactose intolerant grandson and his vegan girlfriend, both nineteen, and coming to stay next week for 10 days? I have some ideas but could do with more. No gluten problem, thank goodness. We are carnivorous but one of us has type 2 diabetes.

She drinks rice milk - this looks easy to make looking at on-line recipes but the result is so disgusting in flavour and texture I can't believe anyone would like it, so I threw it away.

Nut milks are really easy to make, I especially love the hazelnut one. Basically you soak a handful of nuts overnight in the fridge in a bowlful of water. I use around 80g to blend with a Litre of water. then you discard the water and blend the nuts in fresh water, very high speed in a blender. You can then either filter the liquid and use the milk, save the pulp for cookies or breakfast granolas, or just use it as it is. When you store it, the solids separate but all you need is to shake the bottle, and you get the bonus of all the fibre.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

I dont eat dairy or egg (my son is intollerant & i'm breastfeeding him)
Morrisons own brand unsweetened soya milk is the same taste as more expensive Alpro!
The even cheaper UHT soya isn't that nice on cereal etc but fine in baking/pasta sauces etc
I do prefer almond milk in tea.....
I use Vitalite margerine (its dairy free) in baking & as a spread.
JusRoll pastry is all dairy-free. Ditto the morrisons one.
    I use recipes from these
