Hi,
Your worrying needlessly, your creditors will always want more than you can give, that's a fact.
I will tell you what happens when a creditor wont accept your DMP, for whatever reason, they simply sell on the account, you, or stepchange, then negotiate with the new owner, that's usually it, DCA `s are far more willing to accept lower payments than original creditors, so it works in your favour, this may happen numerous times, as debts are sold on, on a regular basis, its nothing to be bothered about.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Hi,
How long have you been in your current job ? Just over 5 years
If its over 2 years, you are entitled to 1.5 weeks pay, per year, that you have worked there, basic, plus any enhancement the employer chooses to offer. - 7.5 weeks is about 2 months salary as I thought. There may be enhancements for volunteering but that wouldn't be known til nearer the time - previously this has been 12 weeks but not sure if this would be offered again due to budget pressures!
If it was me, the most important thing would be to have a job, yes it would be nice if I could match, or even better, my current salary, but that may not be possible. - this is my thought, but wondered what step change would say- at least debtor would still get something
I don't know your whereabouts, but I live in a rural, coastal location, and well paid jobs are like rocking horse poo, myself, I would take what I could get, things may be different for you, but that would be my philosophy. I know what you are saying, I agree, the higher paid jobs are less available but if I apply for a lower paid job at this stage will the employers ask the question why? I am probably overqualified for the lower level jobs but desperate not to be out of work!
Really confused as to what to do for the best, also there will probably be more people seeking work come the end of the financial year as the budget cuts hit!0 -

First thing, don't panic. Give SC a ring in the morning and get it added. If DCA have written, write back telling them you are on a DMP with SC. If you can when they next phone tell them you are on a DMP with SC. Also ask them to write to you in future if they have any questions. Nothing to be humiliated about, moving and being responsible for double bills, would have been a bit stressful.0 -
Hi all,
Seems there's a lot of worries around for one reason or another, main theme here is though to remember, creditors can't have what you haven't got. Keep that in mind whoever you need to talk to today.
Remember also mortgage, utility and the tax man all get their share before unsecured creditors. For anyone new, if your DMP passed the SC budget, all creditors will accept it even if they say they are not.
For anyone on a DMP and needing to reduce payments for whatever reason, don't worry, life happens, pregnancies, redundancies, illness, even job changes for education can all occur on a DMP and creditors will cope!
Car troubles are a well known theme on this thread, GUO is our resident expert, check some of GUO's past posts if you want some ideas on how it's been dealt with. I'm sure someone, but I can't remember who, did get an essential car loan whilst on a DMP, so it's not impossible, but you probably need to be very clear with creditors. I think there might be creative ways with budget to look at as well.
Make the calls you need to today, it's usually far better than worrying about marking them. Hope it's a better week for everyone with troubles.Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

It's ok to make a mistake and get confused, you've obviously had a lot going on, it's not that you didn't pay because you were trying to shirk. Answer the phone to DCA then tell them you are with SC and can't cope with phone calls, tell them to write to you, don't agree to anything on the phone. Hang up if they badger you and don't answer it again.Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

hello - just checking in - I don't have regular internet at the moment so trying to catch up on everyone's news.
vets- definitely get prescription and order online - I have saved a fortune this way
sorry people have stress - as the Wise Sazzie says, they can't take what you aint got.
chugging along here - won't be debt free this year as had originally hoped, now just hoping for next year. I know I will get there though so that's the main thing.
Also I am so glad I went self managed - I couldn't have coped to begin with but it was all fine once I felt ready.Debt at highest - June 2013 - 26k/ March 2018 - 2500
Proud to be dealing with my debts0 -
Hi everyone
I'm 22 months into our DMP and things are chugging on ok, but.... Now I am potentially under threat of redundancy at work! I know there are definite jobs to go in my team - will know by sept/ oct, then consultation, then interviews etc, with people being out on notice by Xmas with a view to leaving put March!
I have already started looking elsewhere, had a couple of unSuccessful interviews. I earn more than my husband so have been looking at jobs similiR salary to what I am currently on. My question is should I look at jobs with smaller salaries and if so how would my creditors view it - as this would affect our step change payments? If I waited to see if I was of the unlucky ones who lost my job - I wouldn't get a big redundancy pay,net - approx 2months salary!
Any thoughts? Has this happened to anyone else?
Many thanks in advance
It's a really tough time and I'm sorry you're having to go through this, but logically I think, start looking for a new, better paid job, or one you'd like more than the current one. If you don't find that, then stay where you are until you know what is happening?
As I said in post above, don't worry about what the creditors might say/think, they'll get what you have left over, mid it takes longer to get to a DFD then it does.
Stick to positives, your debts are being managed, you still have a job and you obviously have lots of transferable skills, it will all work out.Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.
