Hi Zenshi,
The original creditor and the dca should write to you. Only 2 Of my 9 have gone to a dca and I am now over 2 years into my dmp.

Debts are sold on all the time zenshi.
Usually in large batches, were the OC has lost interest in collecting on them.
As puz said, you will get a letter informing you of any sale, and telling you who it's been sold to.
Sometimes a new owner attempts to collect straight away, sometimes they sit on them, sometimes for years, before attempting collection.
There is no rhyme or reason to it sometimes.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Like Puzz, I'm 3 years in and only 1 of my 5 is at a DCA despite multiple default letters, minimum payments and threats that they will.
Any particular reason for asking ?Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

I think the reason I'm being asked now is because I've been treasurer for various groups before and obviously the current group would like someone with experience. Back in the day I had debts (when have I ever not had:o) but always made payments on time and had no arrears, defaults or such like. My honesty was never in doubt and for some strange reason I'm so much better at handling other people's money than my own:rotfl:
Nowadays the defaults, massive amount of debt still (though going down nicely:j) and the fact I'm on a DMP make me a non-starter. I just find it so hard to know what to say when I'm on the general committee anyway and everyone knows I have the time for the extra responsibility and they keep telling me I'd be ideal as treasurer as I know what's involved as I did it for this and that group before:eek:. Sometimes I feel an overwhelming urge to just blurt out that I can't do it because I'm on a DMP, a sort of standing up and acknowledging it like they do at Alcoholics Anonymous. I know I never will, though. Perish the thought:eek:
Thinking of you, phoenixx. Big hugs
I know what you mean, as it happens I am in Debtors Anonymous, and I accept that debt is an addiction for me that I cannot control on my own. i am of course in recovery with thanks to this thread and MSE.
However that doesn't solve your problem. Is there anyone on the committee you could trust with this information? So that they could help you find a way through? I wondered if perhaps there was someone who could be the signatory whilst you handled the cash and transactions somehow? The benefit of that of course is that there is a bult in a security for the charity if that something was to happen to either of you, you both know the system and can handle the paperwork.
The only other think I think you could say that perhaps you knew someone who had been a treasurer of a different organisation in a a made up town who was accused of a wrong doing and you realise how easy it could happen to you and you don't want it. Has to be believable, repeatable and to an extent verifiable though.....
It stinks, because why would you suddenly not be trustworthy when you are on a DMP.. we're the good guys paying it back not running away, so never forget that anyone. :eek:Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

Thanks Sazzie - at least I feel like I am not alone in this
I wish I had never gone along with the invitation to be a signatory. I feel a bit gullible to be honest. Do you have a recommendation about how I could keep an eye on these search agencies? Is it worth doing Noddle or Experian for example?
it was and still is a shock to me, one of the reasons I went down the DMP route because bankruptcy would affect my job, tuts....
I suppose you could always pretend the bank has made a mistake, its what i do if a card transaction fails in a shop....'blimmen bank got it wrong again, i suppose I'll have to go in and rant at them again':o
I do hate fibbing but I've had to grow a thick skin:eek:
I do noddle - its free and apart from the odd 'check out our offers' email doesnt cause me any hassle. Debts are often 2 months out of date but they seem to catch up eventually and at least i know what they are writing about me.
I did the free experian trial but couldn't see anything extra on the report that was much different to Noddle, perhaps others have a different experience. Not all debts register with each agency, my cahoot for example has dissappeared although I think its gone to a DCA but no one has said:)
I do the free postcode lottery and on their bonus page they had an offer to sign up for a different free trial for a credit agency I haven't heard of, but I don't know anyone that's done it and i wouldn't like to recommend it unless there is evidence they don't trick you out of hard-earned. (and its vanished off their page and can't recall the name).Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

I am getting a small tax rebate and am wondering what the chance of a settlement being obtained was
Out of all my creditors, only one send letters headed the OC. The others are with Link or someone else but was unsure if these had been sold or that they are just agents for the OCLBM.....sometime in 2013 £27,056. 10 creditors

Phoenixx and CBC......you have my complete sympathy and understanding. This is the worst part of debt and DMP's. As Sazzie says.....it stinks. Sure....we know CRA's have to exist in some form but they are massively overused and their importance is very 'puffed up.' It sometimes seems that we can't even go to the loo without a credit check being carried out first :rotfl:!! Perhaps we might be irresponsible and use too much toilet roll :rotfl:!!
This credit check stuff has worried me for years and was my only real concern when I was made redundant. Anyway.....I came clean in discussion. It was a bit painful to have an upbeat conversation for two hours knowing I had baggage to dump at the end . All was fine!!
Whilst we are all fairly private in real life, I think we are kindest to ourselves if we don't put ourselves under too much strain by trying to appear to be absolutely perfect. We are then probably more likeable too, rather than the 'holier than though's' and we all know people like that.....actors  !!
It's a tough life, we all have bettle scars and some of these sit on our credit files. What I would say in the position of Phoenixx and CBC is make sure you give one good reason for any financial troubles IF you should decide to declare these. Something that a decent person can relate to and empathise with. I mentioned years of one income whilst the family cared for a dying parent. This is not a fib but true. If you cannot think of any paticular reason a fib may suffice
!! Don't let somebody think you are just sloppy / careless / irresponsible etc!
We are so often 'doing ourselves down.' It's not the end of the world and we have not been relegated from the human race because of some debt trouble.
I appreciate that the cheque signing issue may stand in the way of this promotion Phoenixx but I am wondering if your main concern now is addressing your employer. If so I would strongly suggest pinpointing one reason for the debts and you may find this becomes very easy to deal with!!

Congratulations on the tax rebate:T. Nice to get something back from the taxman instead of the other way round;)
My 2 MBNA debts have been passed on to LINK, they are the only ones that have been. I assumed they had been sold on but LINK never contact me apart from a 6-monthly statement.0 -
Hi, just a quick update from me as I know others on here have been worried about pay plan reviews and letters asking for bank statements etc. I ignored these requests as always and had my review a few days ago. The nice lady who phoned me didn't mention once that I hadn't sent them any "paperwork" and the review was all over and done with in 20 minutes so please don't stress about having to do them! I had the added bonus of another £1000 coming off my total due to updated creditor balances which was nice! 6 years in now and a starting debt of 45000 is now down to just over £6000 and we will be finished in September I can't believe it's nearly over! Keep going everyone you will get there eventually and it will be great!0
