Just seen something that I may try this year and wondered if anyone else wanted to give it a go!! Starting today - day 1 of 2016 - save 1p. Tomorrow - day 2 - save 2p etc etc, day 100 - save £1 etc until the end of the year (or up to Christmas). Apparently it says you will save around £400 and will hopefully not be too difficult to stick to. I may do this until December and use this as my Christmas spends

Hi BDFSH
Sounds like a great idea and I'd probably be ok to the point where you start putting more than £1 a day in......Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

I'm so glad my post made you feel less alone. Being in debt can feel like such a lonely place at times, that is why this forum is so valuable and the people on here so helpful and non-judgemental.
Our kids actually understand the value of things and realise that they cannot just have everything they want. They save their pocket money and have also sold old toys via buy and sell pages to get money to buy new things. Although I will always feel guilty that I cannot give them as much as I would like to, I am proud that they will grow up with financial knowledge which will hopefully stand them in good stead in their adult lives.
Wishing you and your family a great 2016 with more debt cleared

Wobble days are hard, and we all have them, hI think they are probably most difficult when you are well into the DMP, have used up all your reserves and still have a long slog to go....like the middle of the marathon I guess.
Focus on the positives, what's been achieved, what's been learned, changes made in your life and where you'll be when it's done.
Keep smiling, apparently eventually your brain believes the smile is real and cheers up! We'll get there, we're all in for the long haul.Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

I like that idea, BDFSH, thanks for posting it:T.
I'm not sure I could stick to it on a regular basis, I'm involved in lots of little mini-challenges at the moment (not just on MSE) and spare money is very hard to come by. I don't want to commit to something I know I won't achieve, I feel enough of a failure with money as it is:o.
The reason I like your version is because it deals in small amounts:T. The other version that seems popular (with those who have lots of spare money;)) is based on saving £1s and it's weekly rather than daily. £1 in week 1, £2 in week 2 and so on.The drawback with that is that in weeks 49,50,51 and 52 you are having to save a total of £202:eek:. As this will be in December it's definitely a non-starter for most I'd imagine. Probably OK to take the weeks out of sequence but whenever it is, a week that needs savings of £52 is totally impossible for me:o0 -
I don't think there's a person out there on a DMP who doesn't feel bad about not giving their children all the things they want at Christmas time or for their birthdays or the fancy holidays. However I know some children that have all the goodies under the sun but it's not what makes them happy. Loving, caring parents who spend time with their children are priceless, and that's what makes children happy, not stuff that usually ends up broken or pushed to the back of a cupboard when the latest fad is over.
If a child wants an expensive toy then talk to them about it. Tell them it is out of your price range but if they are willing to save for it and pay some money towards it then it's a possibility, and I know everyone will do their utmost to make it happen. I think it teaches children about budgeting and the value of money, and people (children included) value possessions much more if they have worked hard to get them. Perhaps they might look after their stuff better!DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

Hi I was previously on a dmp with stepchange which was due for review in september. I spent ages in hold trying to do a review with them a couple of timea before having to hangup to picj kids up from school, got to uni etc. Therefore the review never got done and the dmp ceased. All but one of my creditors have defaulted now aa hadnt received payment from me since sept. I have set up with one debt agency to pay £5 a month off an old credit card debt. I have no idea where my natwest debt is (i didnt inform them when I moved house last may) although im sure they will find me soon enough. My concern is vanquis- my husband and I have a card each with them and neither have defaulted. Should I persist with not paying them anything to encourage the default or is there anything else I can do to push them down that route? Thanks in advance for any advice 😀0

Hi,
If you have recently moved, your best bet would be to update your details with the credit reference agency's, you will be "flagged up" to your creditors by doing this, could save Natwest (or possible new owner of the debt) from obtaining a CCJ without your knowledge.
As for vanquis, your plan sound good, it's the only way to encourage them to default you, or to sell on the account.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Thanks, I hadn't even considered natwest issuing a ccj. How would I notify noddle of my new address? Had a quick look on my acciunt but can't see a link to update it. Do I have to write to them?
Will persist with vanquis for a bit longer then, I sent them a letter requesting all correspondence in written form whilst I was still in old house so hopefully they will stick to that. They have already traced our new address, got a letter from them last week aaking me to contact them.0
