  • Things are moving along well. All the paperwork is completed and I'm in the process of closing my accounts down and switching to the new one. I'm worried one payment may still go out - loan to Santander and we bank ( did bank) with Santander. Would it be reasonable to delay my DMP start until March?? This would give us time to save a bit more too.
    Thanks and happy Christmas

Yes - delaying to March is reasonable. Just let DMP provider know when you want them to start the DMP.

March will be here before you know it :)

As Christmas is fast approaching I feel it's time to quickly pop my head in the door to say a massive, massive thank you to all who post on this thread. We are 3 months in now and I can't remember the last time I felt more postive or in control of our finances. A DMP isn't to be taken lightly I know but it's already proving to be the best thing we could have done. I actuallly learning to love living on a budget now! And this is the first year we haven't used credit for Christmas - and I have never more relaxed about it!

    Merry Christmas to all.

  • I have been on our dmp with stepchange for around 10 months, everything seemed to be going smoothly but our cc debt with mb*a which has defualted, has been sold on to the pr* group and I have noticed that my balance has increased on my sc statement does this mean they are strarting to charge me interest again and if so how likely am I to get them to stop again? We will be paying our dmp forever if this is the case as this is our largest debt and there's no way I can increase my payment to them currently. Any advice appreciated.

    Hi Disneydreams,

We have an MBNA debt which was sold on to the PRA Group, just went through our SC statements and from the time it shows MBNA to the change over and beyond it has not increased. Did you receive a letter from PRA group stating they had taken over the debt and the outstanding balance figure? Is it higher now, or was the amount in the letter higher. Just wondering if MBNA hadn't frozen interest from the start, or had started charging you again.

Sure someone may be able to shed some more light on it.
  • Merry Christmas everyone and thank you all for your support and advice throughout the year. I couldn't do this without you;)

I hope each and every one of you enjoys a stress-free, peaceful Christmas:xmassign:

    Take care

  • Merry Christmas everyone. Hope you have all had a good one.

I don't post often but I thought I would mention that we have survived our first Christmas on the DMP. We are 3 months into ours and I must say this is the most relaxed Christmas I have had ever. Usually on boxing day I would have been up at 5am to go to the sales and buy lots of clothes we do not really need. Instead I popped into Next this afternoon and only spent £29 and £20 of that was a gift card I received fro my birthday. This compared to probably over £150 I would have spent on CC. I have now learnt to spend only what I have which means I now have to think about what I need rather than want.

  • Hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas. We did ours for the first time in a long time without relying on credit. Feels good! Making our 6th payment to Stepchange next week and we have no regrets about starting the dmp so far. Only wish we'd done it sooner.

I'd like to echo what others have said and say a huge thank you to everyone who posts on this thread. We couldn't have done it without your support and help. So thank you, you're amazing people! Hoping for a great debt busting 2016 for all!

I was looking at the sales and then decided that apart from a new gas fire and new tyres, there is nothing I really need. Bought myself new windscreen wiper blades for my own Christmas pressie, well happy with those, though there was a bit of a story about the price.

Survived Christmas so far, though my back is playing up again which is a pain, literally. Hope everyone is enjoying the festive season, but if you are not, remember it'll be over soon and the you can look forward to making changes which will improve things on the future.
