  • Hi all
This is my first post as I've just started my dmp. I'm a bit anxious about it but looking forward to being debt free after many mistakes.

My first payment is being taken by stepchange on the 1st Jan but some of my payments are due before so I've made a £5 token payment to them. I still haven't heard back from any creditors and it's been about 3 weeks now. I'm up to date on all payments I just can't afford to live after I've paid them hence taking more credit out every month!

I'm really nervous about letters and phone calls but after reading this thread I feel a little better. Thanks everyone

Welcome! You've done the right thing taking the plunge and starting a DMP. Lots of us on here are with StepChange too and are really happy with how things are working out.

It's natural to feel a bit anxious at the start, it's a life-changing step to take, but once everything's up and running you'll suddenly feel a whole lot better:j.

Any problems, questions or worries you may have, please post on here. There are some very wise DMPers here who will know the answers and will be only too pleased to help you.

Try to relax now and enjoy your Christmas and New Year:beer:

  • Thank you both! Just spoke to one of my creditors and they've accepted the plan I'm now with the recovery department so no interest will be charged. They also said I won't have any letters or phone calls as long as I keep up with the dmp which I definitely will be! Only 4 more to hear from!

    Merry Christmas!
  • Hi all,
Just had another weird conversation with Halifax bank around my credit card debt of £670, was higher when we started the DMP. Few weeks ago I kept getting text from them asking me to contact them, so I rang. Told the person I am on a DMP with SC, she said yes see that, will put on file you have called. So tonight I get a call from them, saying my payments are behind by £4.35. She then goes on to say my payments to them were £7:68 in June, but now £5 a month, this was due to a change in income the reduction. Then she proceeds to tell me that because SC pay them on the 16th and the due date is the 28th my payments are counted as extra payments, not the payment. I tried to explain that I have other creditors, all paid at the same time and they are happy, and for SC to hold off paying them for 12 days was not viable. She then said please wait, put me on hold, only to cut me off a few minutes later. Anyone else had similar with Halifax credit Card? Forgot to say in November we received 2 letters the same day from them about the credit card, one saying it was going to collections, the other saying it wasn't, very odd.

    Hi,

I wouldn't get into protracted conversations with creditors about payment dates, if they are that unhappy, they will sell on the debt.

You might as well bang your head against the wall than hope for the Hellifax to get something right, just let stepchange do what they do, if the creditors not happy, that's there problem, and they will deal with it for you.

    Merry Christmas !!

  • Happy Christmas DMPers !!

Just updating my numbers as my self managed DMP paid yesterday. Almost 1/3 paid off now !!

Hope Santa is good to everybody

  • Things are moving along well. All the paperwork is completed and I'm in the process of closing my accounts down and switching to the new one. I'm worried one payment may still go out - loan to Santander and we bank ( did bank) with Santander. Would it be reasonable to delay my DMP start until March?? This would give us time to save a bit more too.
    Thanks and happy Christmas
    LBM 2/12/15 - total debt £62500:shocked::shocked::exclamati::eek:

  • Evening One and All,

I just wanted to update you and thank you all for your advice. So the husband spoke with StepChange and they are moving us to them next month. They were very helpful. He (the husband) has also made contact with some of his creditors, as advised by SC, and they have been really helpful and supportive! I think that has surprised us both but such a welcome relief. We have recently moved banks too and again they are aware of the situation and they have too been helpful.
We have written a slightly tighter budget for the next year and aim to keep to it. We decided to have a trail start to it this month and so far it is working. Silly season is over rated anyway.
Hope everyone has a lovely Christmas and New Year. Stay safe and remember folks we are not alone in all this. And we can get out of it with support for one another too.
    Big hugs Pace x
    Money scares me.

    Honesty update will arrive shortly......:o
