Just want to shout out for those considering a DMP if you are at the beginning of the journey. It's easy to say but don't be scared. I started with debt due to divorce/separation of over £53000 in November 2013. We've now paid off over 20 percent of the debt and this month (pay day today) we have, due to careful budgeting over £1500 in our savings accounts for emergencies, holidays etc. It can be done. Be determined and careful. Good luck.

Thanks run, great progress, do you have any top tips for budgeting ?
Mine, sorry for those that get this every time, is to look at your food waste and try to reduce that. I now waste less then 75p worth of for per week on average. Shame on me for the 75p, but I am working in it.

My other concern....mortgage deal is due to expire soon and I'll need a new one! Anyone been in this situation, I mean, on a DMP/in debt and needing a new mortgage deal?

Remortgaged, same company, better fixed rate did try others but no one would like at a DMP customer.

    TOTAL LOL
Barclaycard who threatened us with a default last month, sending a notice of default. Have just sent a letter agreeing to our payment plan for 12 months. total scaremonger lol I know we want defaults, but I don't intend to get credit ever again so as long as I pay im happy.

Side note sent our tsb loan a letter a week ago asking for interest to be stopped. They have completely ignored me. Should I wait longer or try ringing a lot?

Im aware from April if everything goes as planned with the tax credit cuts we are £170 a month worse off so trying to plan x

    Hi everyone,

Not posted for a bit, still getting to grips with our DMP, second payment going out next month so its moving slowly.

We got a letter this morning from Halifax Bank Credit Operations Department regarding our personal loan debt and that they had now passed it on to Wescot Credit Services LTD, it told us to contact them gave details of the Wescot Reference, etc. So I phoned them, told them I was on a DMP with SC and they would be dealing with it. Gave them the reference number for SC. He said they would put it on hold for 30 days while they waited on SC contacting them. First of our debts which have gone to a debt company. is there anything else I should do, other than contact SC Monday. The Wescot person said I should also send the letter I have received from Halifax to SC.

    Hi everyone,

    Another post from me.
I have just checked my Noodle Credit Report, still has the Halifax Loan down as Late Payment, will this change to defaulted now past to DCA? It does show that Tesco bank credit card has been defaulted, the last letter I had from them was in February 2015 , which did mention default.

Thanks to everyone who continues to offer support and advice on here, without all of you I am sure I would be finding this even harder than I am.
  • Hi everyone looking for some advice about whether to stay with SC or go self managed as for the second time Barclaycard haven't received payment from them and it is showing as late on Noodle.
Does anyone know if this is down to SC or Barclays? I have done some research on self managed but just wondered what other peoples thoughts were.

    Hi Boldhoof

I've just come on to ask something very similar! Had a letter from SC today to say that my Lloyds credit card debt has been sold on and they won't make any payments to the account until the details have been updated. Called Lloyds (the man I spoke to was lovely until he realised the account had been passed on haha!) and Cabot have it now, so need to contact them on Monday (can't wait...) to get payment details. We're making our first DMP payment on 1st August (the Lloyds debt is fairly old and we've been on a plan with them for a few years) so need to get the details soon. To me it sounds like you've done everything correctly, but I'm a complete novice so hopefully someone else with more experience will chip in!

Runforlife - thanks for another positive story, always nice to hear them. Sounds like you're doing amazingly well - good luck for the rest of your journey.

Tequilabird - Glad you've spoken to SC and have sorted things out. Sorry to hear about your dad. Lost mine a few years ago so can sympathise.

Things are still plodding on here. Both of our overdraft agreements have been terminated now (and they won't be back! Lame joke, sorry!). Haven't heard anything from any other creditors though, other than the Lloyds thing above. It's only 2.5 weeks since SC received all the details so I'm being a bit impatient. I've been reading some of the debt diaries as well and am so inspired by what people have achieved. Thinking of starting one myself as a way to track things.

    Hi,

I would not advise contacting Cabot at all, they will write to you in good time, why feed there fire ?

Was the Lloyds debt a bank account/overdraught debt, or a loan ?

If it was a loan, due to its age, I would advise doing a CCA request to Cabot, once they write to you, see if they still hold the correct paperwork, if it was a bank account, then different legislation applies, and this is not applicable.

Hi, thank you for the reply. The debt is from a credit card. Can't remember exactly how old it is but I started on a payment plan at least 4 years ago and it defaulted not long after but has only very recently been passed on. SC have said that if the payment details aren't updated with them soon then they'll take the debt off the plan and I'd really like to keep it on there for now. Realise I'm probably being really naive though!

The card was taken out sometime between 2005 and 2008. Isn't there a magic date for CCA requests? Thanks again for your advice, do appreciate it. I'm so new to all this and it confuses me so much!

When we started our token plan in December 2014 it took a bit of time before we received anything from our creditors. We have only had one that refused the offer, and when we started the DMP they refused that and it was a Llyods credit card.
