Best way I've found of getting round the bread/milk issue is buying cravendale milk as i'ts filtered and lasts longer and some pa rt=bake bread for later on in the week.
Haven't had to go top up for a number of years now. That's Numberwang!0 -
Hi there
I have done similar to queenie...
I have hoards of cookery books and magazines and i love to sit going through them..so i got an index box, worked out weekly menus and then turned each one into a shopping list...and i mean every last ingredient :-)... so now all i need to do is decide what menu we fancy and then do a quick run through to check what i allready have in and off i go..and being a little sad i have even covered them in sticky backed plastic LOL
It is amazing how much time, thought n effort it saves !!!-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
I too have had same problem! We once went into supermarket for a loaf of bread and bought a computer!!!!! Now that was an expensive loaf!
All I can suggest is lists and more lists - I know very boring but for me they really do work.
There is a thread on here called what did you have for breakfast/lunch/dinner (sorry don't know how to do link) and it has really helped me to focus and to plan our meals.

Not as bad as my dad, who once went out to buy a car radio and came back with a new car.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

As Flylady says, 'you have the power of the delete key' - why miss out on the good reminders just because you have to delete a few that dont apply to you?

I'll put in a vote for Cravendale too. It is a bit more expensive than ordinary milk, but it lasts for up to three weeks in the fridge - very long shelf life - and tastes yummy. I reckon it actually saves me money though because I don't have to pop to the supermarket for milk. And my beloved Fastbake breadmaker sorts out the bread issue.0 -
A week before pay day I put a sheet of lined A4 on the fridge with a pen & as any of us develop a craving for a meal we jot it down. This is the basis of my monthly meal plan. The evening before payday I sit down with this list, a list of things I've seen during the month I want to try out & the previous few months meal planners. I can then write a comprehensive list, remembering to do some meals that I can leave in the slow cooker to cook, quick meals, and meals I can prepare bit by bit through out the day (I have a 10 week old LO who takes up most of my time). I then note down the ingredients for each, making note if what I can store & what needs buying fresh, this means I have a shopping list already for the next day.
At the start of the week I look at what I need to get fresh & get those, if theres anything unusual I can always pop out on the day to get it or ask OH to pick it up before he comes home. I dont tie myself down to specific meals on specific days, I see how the day is planning out & then decide. I also try & make extra of each meal so can put a portion of them in microwavable tubs (10 for £1 in poundland) to freeze for days I dont get chance to cook.
I get 4pints of milk from the local newsagents for 99p, as its right next to my sons school I can take him to school & pick up a bottle when we're running low.You cant take a step forward with both feet on the ground0 -

you can opt for a daily digest if you dont want all the individual emails ....... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

You can now get the emails as a single daily digest - and they've given the option of only having a few of the 'regular reminders' included in that!0 -
I don't seem to be able to get organised easily...I know that I can do it and thank you to whoever said to do it for a month and it will become automatic, thats my goal for 15 mins of 'swish and swipe' for the next month. Have been putting off doing a proper budget until my pension was sorted, got my first payment this morning so that is something I have to do, have just been operating since I found OS on a system of not buying I don't need...I needed €14 worth of stamps this am and had no budget section to take it out of...IYKWIM...so that's the next week gone trying to get it all right
Love MSE, it is helping me spend less money...Ihope

Speaking of milk, I got to work today and put the kettle on, made a cuppa, poured the milk in and it was like YOGURT! We have no fridge and I assumed it was a new pint - put me right off.0
