Butlins entertainment passes with sun holidays

Just a warning for anyone thinking of removing their entertainment passes, Butlins are now issuing orange keycards if you have removed your entertainment passes and blue keycards if you have paid for the passes. You then have to show a blue keycard to gain access to the pool or any of the shows and they are checking these now.
We have just been to Skegness and I removed the entertainment passes as we went last year and didn't go to the shows and only used the swimming once so did not feel they were worth the price. I did pay for 6 flexi passes but there was a letter in with my welcome pack stating I could only use these on restricted activities as I was not allowed to enter the Skyline Pavilion without entertainment passes. I queried this at check in as I would have to go in to go to Hotshots to pick up the passes but she said I wasn't allowed in as there was entertainment on in the Pavilion that I hadn't paid to access. I also asked if that meant I couldn't even go to the Spar and she confirmed I couldn't go in the Pavilion at all. She said they are doing random security checks inside (I never saw this happen though) and could terminate my booking if I breached the terms by accessing the Pavilion.
She was actually not very nice about it even though I explained that we had no intention of using the entertainment as we had booked other things in the area (Skegness stadium, the waterpark, etc).

If anybody is staying at Minehead Butlins, remember that there is a second Spar at the back of the camp i.e. not in the Skyline pavilion
eta. We weren't asked to show our passes in Minehead a couple of weeks ago, but I don't know if there were any Sun holiday weeks bookable at the same time as we weren't on a Sun break.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Does anyone know an update on this?
I'm going on a hen do in a few weeks,at skegness butlins and I asked for the entertainment passes to be taken off as we will have no children with us (intend to use the relaxing spa), so we don't intend to be watching thomas, brainiac etc.
So I'm now concerned if we're going to get stuck with not being able to use things you pay extra for, like the cinema and bowling etc. as well as the spar shop. Of all the times I've been to skegness butlins, I've never been asked to show anything, but last time I went was a couple of years ago, and this is the first time I've used the sun holiday deal.
If anyone has any advice on this, I would be very grateful, thanks.TSB: £4900
Virgin: £4700

I was at Butlins Bognor last November for fireworks break.
We was given coloured wristbands, showing if entertainment passes had been purchased.
Everyone entering either Reds or the Main Stage were checked by the security staff.0 -
We are just back from a week at Skegness. 6 adults, 7 children and not once asked to show a pass or wristband anywhere.Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is the truth.0

Thanks for posting this. I was literally about to book my first Sun Holiday to Skegness. 2 adults a 4 year old and a 7 month old and am still humming and hawing about the passes but I don't want us to be stuck and not allowed to do anything. Also does anyone know would I need to pay for an entertainment pass for my 7 month old son and can I book for a travel cot in the room? Or will this cost me extra? It didnt give me the option on the booking page and it didnt give me the option of upgrading to a unit with a kitchen or lounge. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as it will take us 6 hours to get there and I want my son to have a fantastic time. On maternity leave so money is really tight. If this one will work out too expensive can anyone recommend any other sun sites which are really kid friendly and closer to Scotland? Thanks0

For Butlins Skeggy you'd need to book a standard apartment to get kitchen facilities and a lounge.
Room only is just that, but with room only service charge is free.
You can hire a travel cot for £8 per break, entertainment passes are free for under 2 yrs old
When you get your email confirmation from Butlins phone and take the babies pass off and add the cot,or take your own0 -
If anyone is interested, I came back last week from butlins, and I wasn't asked to show any passes at any point.TSB: £4900

Hi Heather, thanks for the update. Which Butlins did you go to hun?
(Hope you had fun)
Thanks so much!0 -
I'm on a Butlins weekend break at Skegness right now and they are checking key cards to go into entertainment areas (Reds, centre stage, skyline etc) and have confirmed they will also check at the swimming pool. Not sure on spar as I haven't been in but I doubt they'll check there. Also nobody checking in the penny slots area.
They are now giving anyone who takes the entertainment passes off their Sun holiday and orange pass rather than a blue pass. Apparently they are cracking down on sun holiday bookers cancelling them.
Hope this helps.0
