I have amended my post from Passing to Overtaking. (Old age does not come alone)
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

    Doesn't matter;)

round here people bounce onto the kerb on either side of the road, and the passengers fling the doors open both sides.

They couldn't care less who is on the pavement, or the road.

They don't like it when The Smelly Old Dog tries to get in with them :o, but when they open the door 6" in front of her face, what do they expect, she thinks "we're going for a drive, great!":D

Never an apology either, even though they've just driven straight onto the pavement right past us

EDIT: What can they say really?
"Sorry mate, I didn't see you"?
"Sorry mate. I can see you but I really don't care tuppence for you, you should be greatful we didn't run you over"?
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Off the top of my head, cars with rear suicide doors include RR Phantoms or V/x Merivas. I can understand your confusion.

By 'V/x Merivas' do you mean volkswagan?

Edit: I now know - Vauxhall

You mean whilst you are driving along?

I thought the RX8's rear door could only be opened after the front door was opened?
The one bit of my post you omitted to quote "Goes back to the times when cars were made of wood covered with cloth. ".

Of course a modern car has a safety mechanism to stop the door being opened whilst in motion! Linking it with the front doors is the obvious way.

Here's one of the last true suicide door cars:

(The Subaru 360 was a terrible car in many other ways, the doors were just one aspect!)

The New New Clubman now has normal rear passenger doors (like the 5-door) and the clap-hands doors for the bootspace to make it a 6-door!
I need to think of something new here...
