The OP never said that her friend contacted Asda.

I don't see that.
If I had bought a table that spontaneously exploded, I would want some response from the retailer - regardless of what I'd read on FB.
That's why I asked the following questions:Did your friend complain to Asda at the time?
Did she get any response?
Have any of the retailers responded either directly to the people who've complained or on Facebook?

So would I, Pollycat, but in my experience so many people can't be bothered that I though, on balance (and because no mention was made of and contact), it was unlikely that OP's friend had.
I wish more people would make the effort, as it is because so many people take the attitude: "oh, it's not worth the hassle, it was only £xx", that (some) retailers get away with selling shoddy goods and offering shoddy customer service.That's why I asked the following questions:

Then today, she saw a post on Mums Advice on Facebook and tables bought in Asda, Argos and Aldi have smashed into bits in warm weather. Obviously not fit for purpose. She shared the post.

Err no I wasn't aware that she hadn't contacted Asda as there was nothing in the op to say that she hadn't. I was giving the OP's friend the benefit of the doubt in doing the sensible thing.It's someone else's fault.0 -

If that were actually true, rather than an excuse for the passive/aggressive tactic of asking about the outcome of something that you do not even know happened, you should have realised that either:
1) The friend had contacted Asda and they weren't bothered (since the OP would hardly have said that none were bothered if her friend had got a result). In which case your question was redundant.
