Glass table patio sets not being recalled

My friend bought a Miami patio set from Asda last year. With the sunny and hot weather, the glass table top smashed into small pieces. Fortunately, her family were out.
Then today, she saw a post on Mums Advice on Facebook and tables bought in Asda, Argos and Aldi have smashed into bits in warm weather. Obviously not fit for purpose. She shared the post.
All the comments of posters that had a table breaking, none of the retailers were bothered.
Can you imagine what injuries could occur if anyone was near the table?
Why are these retailers not bothered with something that will cause serious injuries? Why aren't these recalled?

Oh, it's glass, it breaks.0 -
Glass tables should be made of toughened glass. When that breaks, it shatters into lots of little granules, not nasty shards like standard glass. I would think it's unlikely to cause any serious injuries, unless someone was doing something stupid like standing on the table. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

What are the injuries likely to be0 -
What are the injuries likely to be
Small children finding pieces of glass and doing whatever small children do with bright sparkly things they find. Obviously you'd expect parents to be monitoring such children but a non-hazard suddenly becoming a hazard is not good.
Adults could be injured if something hot or heavy was on the table and fell on them.
It's a sad reflection of the state of this forum that a perfectly sensible and reasonable warning gets virtually nothing but stupid, sarcastic responses. Although I see a few of the worst have been removed. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

Did she get any response?
Have any of the retailers responded either directly to the people who've complained or on Facebook?
I'm curious what their stance is.0 -
Without knowing what warnings and usage instructions were supplied with the tables when sold, it might not be the case that they are not fit for purpose, just that they were not used for their intended purpose.
If they were sold as patio furniture, this means that they are for outdoor use but at the moment, no one has said that this is where any of the tables affected were actually being used.
I have a glass roofed conservatory and during the recent hot spell. the temperature inside would easily reach 40c (no, not a typo) if I didn't have any windows open and a ceiling fan on and the table I have in there gets too hot to touch at times.
A piece of furniture designed for outside use could soon fail if I left it in there.0 -
It is interesting to note that in the link supplied by BofP the Asda table is 'out of stock'.
I wonder whether that is because they have sold them all, or they have decided not to sell any more because of 'problems'?
We may never know.
Incidentally, that link also tells us that the glass is 'toughened clear patterned glass'.0 -

Probably sold the shipment they had...
Most such items are bought in quantities enough to meet expected demand but not much more as they're a seasonal item and quite bulky (but low value) thus it's better to sell out of them than have a lot left.0 -

What did Asda say when she reported the breakage to them? It's someone else's fault.0 -

Which part of "none of the retailers were bothered"..are you having trouble understanding?
And why on earth would someone thank you for not reading the OP properly
and asking a redundant question? There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0
