I've been looking at the royal mail website and put in the weight of the box and the size of it and it would need to be insured for up to £2000. I might have got it wrong so am taking it with me when I go out this afternoon and getting it priced in the post office so that when bidding finishes I can have an accurate postage price.

    Ah I see!
Just looked at royal mail again and they do indeed charge over £100 for delivery with insurance upto £2500 using Global Priority and international data post.

How about going into your "my messages" bit and clicking on the buyers message.
If you click his feedback you should then be able to click on contact member tab at the top of the page - I've done it a few times!
I'd then tell they guy how much postage is probably going to be due to having to insure it adequately and if he is the highest bidder offer to remove his bid.

Also I wouldn't accept paypal as payment from him or anyone else.
It would worry me with such large sums of money involved.
It may also put your American buyer off if he couldn't pay by paypal!
The best way to be paid would be bank transfer!

I tried what you suggested about the contact a member tab but it wouldn't let me as I was not involved in a transaction or something similar. The current winning bidder is now a UK member so fingers crossed they win then won't have a problem.
  • Add him to your blocked buyer list - then he cannot bid!

You can do that now, no problem.
