Buyer in USA

Hi I'm selling an item on ebay and have listed that will post to UK only. I received a message from a bidder this morning saying how he would really like to win my item as he bid on one before and the seller has not responded to any emails so assumed it was a con. I replied saying good luck with his bid and then checked his feedback which is where I noticed that he is registered in US.
As I had already responded to his question I am unable to contact him again, how do I tell him that if he wins the cost of posting this item with enough insurance is going to be at least £100, in the UK it is less than £10, which is why I've put UK only on listing.
If he wins can I charge him the correct cost of postage? I can post it cheaper but not with enough insurance, which I'm not willing to do as I will loose out if anything goes wrong.
What should I do? My listing ends tonight

If he bids and you cancel his bid put him on your blocked bidder list.

The othe thing is when his message came through to your email account, was it a "reply via yellow button" email or did it have his email address?

If it has his email address on it you could email him direct.

Another thing, could you not contact the member just using his user name via ebay messages?

Yes, click on his feedback rating next to the name and you can contact him. What is th item you selling just out of interest? Is it something you could break down? You can send it on RM International signed for with extra Insurance will give you cover up to £500 loss.

If you really do not want him as a bidder then cancel him and block him - you can find all the links under your info on My Ebay page at the bottom of the page. You can only do this with less than 12 hours to go.

Oh, don't forget, if he is in the US he will be tucked up in bed until around 12.00 as they are at least 5 hours behind us and this is why he has probably not replies yet. Chec his feedback and also what he has been buying and selling before through the advance search feature - it gives you an idea of how much money the buyer has and what they have been spending it on!! ;)

I'm selling the new Harry Potter book signed at Moonlight signing and is worth more than £500. I tried to contact him through his feedback page but ebay wouldn't let me as I wasn't in a transaction with him. Am I able to amend my listing to put the postage costs in if there is less than 12 hours left?

I've checked his feedback and he has one neg for doing the same thing to a Uk buyer before, they didn't send him the item, and he seems to be a buyer of Harry potter books but not for the amount he has bid on mine.

no, you can only amend with over 12 hours left, whats his feedback like? If it is ok and you want to chance it then leavehim and he will understand about postage. Personally I have had too much trouble with american ebayers so I would probably ot let him bid, especially because of the value of the item. But its up to you.

His feedback is 97.8%. If he won't pay postage, can I then offer it to the next bidder as a second chance offer or would I need to relist?
Thanks for all help so far

How come you think the postage is going to be £100?

You can send a 1kg parcel to USA including £500 insurance using Airsure for £16.92

Anyway yes you can do a second chance offer if you so wish.
