Can You Pay £212 Less Income Tax?
First of all thanks a million Foxgloves for prompting me to look into this. We are now going to be richer thanks to you.
:A
I thought we weren't entitled to Marriage Allowance but I just phoned the helpline on 0300 200 3300 and we are! Our circumstances are that we are married and I am earning about £12,300 a year and my OH is earning £0 and not claiming any benefits.
To get started you fill in a short form (Link) and then you eventually get an email with more instructions. However, we had deleted that second email so I called the helpline and in less than 5 minutes the advisor had set it all up for us. And, for once, the questions they asked were really easy, they just needed name, address and National Insurance number. My tax code will now change so that I will be paying less income tax and it'll be backdated to April 2015. I'll be giving this extra money to my OH.
I would say, if in doubt, put in a claim. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Eligibility criteria from the government website:
"You can claim Marriage Allowance if all the following apply:- you’re married or in a civil partnership
- your annual income is £10,600 or less, plus up to £5,000 of tax free savings interest.
- your partner’s annual income is between £10,601 and £42,385
- you were born on or after 6 April 1935

We are getting lifts off my friend to and from the airport so that's sorted. Possible may need to use taxis on a couple of days whilst she is in work though (from house to chosen destination) hopefully friend can advise on cheapest method though
When we go to Turkey we use the Dolmus minibuses with the locals. They were charging about £1 to go 5 miles and running every ten minutes or so. (Link) Not sure where you're going, but they certainly run in Marmaris and Western Turkey. They are hot and cramped, but for £1 we didnae complain!

Afternoon All
Finally home for the day horray!
Maria - It must be a huge stress on you. Is this the reason you were talking about the other day about being debt free now but worrying about getting into more come the start of the year?
I think Dawn has made some wonderful suggestions, but only you will know if any of them are viable. It does sound like your husband has really carried more than his fair share of family traumas. And thank you for caring about me as well. I dont know if its supposed to be hot. It certainly is right now.
JoJo - Thanks as well. Im sure you've been through it all beforeAs Ally says further down thread, we used the local buses too, its really exciting like an adventure! I havent been to Turkey since 2005 so Im afraid my advice re money would be very out of date. But with your ninja skills Im sure you'd be fine. We did a lot of days out where we had breakfast at the hotel then bought bread, local cheeses, fruit, etc, water, so that was inexpensive. And like here, its eating out a lot that adds up, but lots of options for pack ups, and stay off the booze to really keep the £s down.
Twiggy - Thanks lovely, & how annoying. I bet that was stressful trying to answer their darned questions and getting asked more rubbish ones. When I was still working in Marketing, I was sent for a role at the BBC that was the other kind of research than I did, it was very specifically for an analyst, Im trained in qualitative methods. Anyway, the woman was very peed off that the agency had sent me, and I hated every minute of it. Hope you get better ints soon.
Dawn - Thank you. You are right, but sometimes its easier said than done. I dont have any family local, my husband helps about a million percent more than many do, & we have the business that has to run. Its why I always think so highly of you & Determined, and all the other amazing grandparents who are on the front line helping their children raise their families every day, I wish for one ounce of that sometimes. But I am not doing it single handed like some super mammas so I take my hats off to those who do - looking at you JoJo! Sorry your sales are down as well.
Ally - Very glad you qualify, that is great news!
Determined - I thought of you yesterday. I hope you can now get on with getting used to her being gone. Huge hugs.
Greensalad - Hope you find YNAB good, so many rave about it.
Foxgloves - Thanks for the kind thought. Its true. I feel like thats how I live too. Will try and press pause for a bit this weekend. Glad your garden hasnt suffered too much with you being out of action.
Floella - Thank you, & please be kind to yourself too. You are a bit ahead of me on the pg front. I think Im 7 months now. Have a checkup next week so will ask then. I cant keep track this time round! Take care.
FVD - Happy birthday to you lovely lady! I love the names of the burgers at your restaurant. The Elvis would certainly do an Elvis if I were around right nowyour DSS sounds lovely. Am sure your son is just being a typical boy but loves you very much anyway.
Hannah - Thank you, on both counts! Hope your weekend is lovely. I want to see the Minions film, well DS wants to anyway so do feedback.
Phewf long post. Going to make a cup of tea and take it out in the garden and have a moments pause.
Love to all

Hi All
I wonder how much our small things really save us. Hanging out washing etc? I bet it really adds up.
Am watching Murray and he is 2 sets down and I am almost in the TV trying to will him to win. Federer is just incredible. Wimbledon is worth my TV license fee by itself.:T
Mr T coming tomorrow and I have increased my order to £40 to practise for next week when it has to be £40!! Really.
My cash crisis in Jan us not farm related, it is my business so it will be a double whammy. Have relooked at farm accounts, we can not diversify, we really are too rural and not pretty enough for tourism. Our diversification is really me going to work and fortunately I have been able to find and keep local work. I am really very lucky.
Am toying with taking up drinking and smoking then I can give them up and save money! feels logical.
I have had a lovely after work swim and feel relaxed and ready for an early night and some batch cheap cooking tomorrow.
Have a lovely night all and happy birthday FvonD, Look after all your babies pregnant ladies xx:D0 -

We've had two vouchers so far by downloading the App to our two mobiles. You have to sign up, do a survey, download the App and enter a PIN code. You get the voucher after 30 days.
