Morning guys :wave: beautiful day here in kent :T
Planning to pick dgd up early from CM and take her to an outdoor swimming pool in the next town over. Will be nice for her as not so crowded as not school holidays yet
Funeral yesterday and things went well (you never know with my family!) My aunt came to support me and my brother which was nice.
Maria so sorry to hear your troubles x
JoJo when we went to Turkey a couple of weeks ago I took £200, and I could have taken a lot less if I had wanted to as I had a turkish bath/massage package that took a lot of that up and we had some money left over at the end which we used in duty free. How are you getting from the airport to the hotel? We never get transfers and always use public transport. With a little research you can save loads, we have on loads of trips. When we arrived at Turkey we hadn't done the research properly and it cost us 160 lira (about £40 :eek:) but on the way back we did and got a taxi to the town and caught the havvas bus and it cost 32 lira for taxi and 20 lira for the bus! (about £14 :j)
Hope you're not too tired to day Bob x
Feeling very productive today already! It's 10am and I have already:
* tidied up the house
* made dinner & used up some ingredients from the freezer and some red wine lurking in the larder
* done a load of washing & hung out
* made dgd's packed lunch gave her 1/2 a mufin (bought a pack of 4 from coop last night reduced to 39p froze 3 and decided 1/2 was big enough for her so froze the other half
), 1/2 a hot dg bun with some ham & cheese and olives
* used ally's link for the free prints. Am wanting to make a collage of photos from our holiday for a picture for dgd's room
* printed a few doubles so can give in frame as gifts to family (birthday's & christmas
)
(this seemed more impressive when I had done it by 9.15!)
Still to:
* [STRIKE]check banking[/STRIKE] Phew glad I did this as realised mortgage is going to come out of account tomorrow and this would take us under the limit we can get interest so transferred from childcare account to cover it
* [STRIKE]make up bag for swimming. Take snacks and drinks[/STRIKE]
* get washing in and put away
* [STRIKE]water plants[/STRIKE]
* contact tax credits and see if we are entitled to anything
* have a look on Amazon for a book I'm after (learn Portuguese) and see if it is on offer/nearly new
* [STRIKE]all food from stores[/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]check water & oil in car[/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]read my book[/STRIKE]
* hopefully watch film with oh tonight and have some QT
* email friend to see about skyping over the next few days
Ok that's all I need to do today. Hope everyone has a lovely Friday xDF as at 30/12/16

Purchased YNAB

Put it on credit card, so perhaps not super sensible (but I had just paid off £185 from the CC) but I think it's worth it in the long run.
Bought stamps so I can submit a healthcare claim for £40. That will go straight back to the CC.
Researched dental prices so I can get my fillings done. Can claim £150 back from healthcare plan. Two large white fillings plus consultation will probably cost £182 so I'll have to pay a little myself, but worth it for my teeth!0 -

Hello Frugal Friday People,
Well, another day of not much energy due to the combination of getting over the flu & hormones. Have achieved quite a lot this morning, but I've come to a standstill now. It's mr f's cooking night, so I don't have too much more to do today.
*Recycled hot bathwater to do urgent job of shaving legs. Happened to look at them today & thought 'OMG, those are the legs of someone who has been poorly with flu & they WON'T DO!!' Am now restored to smooth loveliness (Oh well, ok, loveliness is pushing it....)
*Cleaned whole house using minimal products.
*Did a few surveys as I've been slacking on these lately & I LOVE vouchers.
*Body Shop order arrived - it was 30% off non-sale items which knocked my day cream down by a good wodge. Also, bought 3 Body Butters which were half price in the sale, 2 for me & one to pop away in the present box. They are £13 full price, so at half price, they do make a really nice gift.
*Watered veggie garden & greenhouse. I don't think I'll catch up now, not with a week away camping followed by pretty much a fortnight of illness. Never mind, if I can just keep stuff fed & watered, the food should hopefully keep coming. Basil, lettuce & 2 more cucumbers to pick today.
*Cooked the remaining 2lbs of broad beans picked the other day. I shall sit & pod them later then make into broad bean pesto for the freezer. I made some the other night & it was lovely. mr f was raving about it. I didn't have a recipe, just blitzed up beans, olive oil, grated cheddar, our homegrown garlic & basil & some seasoning.
*Peruse Avon book for anything bargainmongous.....though my toiletries stash is looking quite healthy at the moment.
*Have applied for cat & me to be on an online panel for a big petfood brand. They only want 300 people so don't know if we'll get chosen. Payment for little projects/surveys done is by voucher. I've been on a similar panel for Heinz & I've done quite well for Amazon vouchers for taking part. Worth a try, if we don't get picked I've lost nothing.
*Make packed lunch & work snacks for tomorrow.
*Do some more knitting. I resurrected my project last night & the end could well hove into sight if I have another good run at it this afternoon.
Best wishes to all for a pleasant Friday - Bob - do take care.....you seem to hurl yourself at life at 100 mph & I'm sure you need to be resting more.
Off to pod out hundreds of broad beans now......better get a podcast on (no pun intended!)

All is not pink and fluffy at Dowd Towers this morning, as, despite jumping through hoops like a performing seal as required by HMRC, our Tax Credits have failed to arrive this morning. We've done our renewal so I suspect they are mid-process just now and are adjusting our entitlement, but I'm not happy as I now have to tweak our budget to accommodate the shortfall.
Just called the HMRC. It seems that my renewal claim wasn't processed correctly which is I why I just got two letters through the door. I saying that we're not entitled 2015-2016 and one saying we owe them £650. I nearly had a panic attack! :eek:
Both of these letters, it turns out are wrong! We don't owe them and we are still entitled. I knew this had to be wrong as I use the HMRC Tax Credits calculator every time I have a lifestyle change to make sure we're not being overpaid. The really helpful guy I spoke to on the helpline said we'll get this week's money soon and he's going to fix it. Please G-d let that be true.
Off to sip half a glass of some flat cider I found in the pantry (for medicinal purposes) and to have a lie down. I'm shaking all over with fear and rage. This is about the tenth time I've been a victim of the Tax Credit's systems incompetence.Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0 -

Afternoon everyone,
Sorry to hear about your problems Maria
Get well soon Bob and ally!
I've had a very slow day today regarding debt free wannabe. I had my renal clinic this morning. All my levels apart from my kidney function was fine. Last 9 weeks of pregnancy and I will need to be vigilant in case of any problems and report to labour ward straight away!
Today I have
*checked swag bucks and filled in any relevant surveys
*answered all the surveys I can through my email
*updated my spreadsheet of outgoings/ ingoings
I still need to ( if I don't get too tired)
*wash up
* put washing out on drier and put another load in
*clean space bathroom
*clean other bathroom
* cook dinner from Turkey in the fridge.
Have a good rest of the day everyone.
Former Debt free wannabe. Now trying to save for a rainy day!0 -
Dawn, if you have long hair those socks can be cut into bands as scrunchies (and if you don't maybe plant ties?)
Maria, things sound tough
I too am the main breadwinner and it IS far more stressful than being the lower earner.
Good news about the (maybe) goslings though!
There seem to be lots of funerals at the moment, we were at one on Monday which all went as well as funerals can do but still a terrible loss of someone way too soon (42 and carer for his young son.)
I'm being totally rubbish on the money front still, I had a Mr T delivery scheduled for yesterday (I was working from home) and they called early morning to say my payment had been declined
I was half asleep and told them to cancel and then realised I'd not transferred money that was paid in the day before so did that and called back and the payment went through second time.
Unfortunately though they didn't load it onto the van so I didn't get it until 9.30pm last night :eek: but on the bright side they did send me a £10 e voucher by way of apology
They also sent us 2 x Whisk@s sachets of food yesterday which the cats actually ate (they usually hate that brand, as I found out when there was a glitch and bought 10 x 44 sachet boxes of it!)
It's my birthday today and DH has bought me the plates I have been coveting from Mr S for ages and they are beautiful
Tonight he is taking me out to dinner at my favourite burger restaurant http://www.caesarsleatherhead.co.uk (their coleslaw is sublime) where we are meeting middle stepson and his new girlfriend. Middle SS called this morning to ask what are my favourite chocolates
he's such a nice lad and so proud that he's now earning which is more than can be said for my own DS who won't even bother to write a card even if DS buys one and puts it in front of him.
Have a great weekend everyone!Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

Looking forward to a nice mse weekend now, we have a bi-annual airshow here this weekend so we are going to stay at my parents (only 10mins down the road) as we can get on their balcony and have a great view of it all
I've bought some food to have whilst there but obviously we'll be saving gas/elec/water whilst there. I'm taking Tesco cc vouchers for entry to the local pool. We may walk over to the cinema tomorrow evening to see the minions film with the lads, using nectar points. So should be a really cheap but lovely weekend
Might not get back to post til Monday so if not, have a lovely weekend all.
