Warranty - KIA - Cargiant
I am buying a car from Cargiant. One of the products offered is an AA extended warranty. Now the car is a KIA, which supposedly has a 7 year warranty (with 3 remaining). However, because it does not seem to have been serviced in accordance with the guidance, I think the warranty is essentially void, although I'm not sure whether or not they would actually cover it if anything went wrong.
So when I was going through with the purchase, the salesman advised that I should get the AA gold extended warranty for 1 year. He said it would cover 1 year after the end of the KIA warranty and, in the meantime, if KIA refused to honour the warranty on the grounds that it had been invalidated, AA would cover the costs.
This surprised me, since I would be paying for 1 year's warranty (£299), but would be getting cover for 4 years. Also, he said I could cancel after 3 years (ie before the 1 year extension officially starts) and received £250 back, so I would be paying only £50 for the interim period.
I agreed to it, but of course I have a 14 day cooling off period to think about it. I haven't yet obtained the full policy document. Does it seem likely that what he said is true? Will it really cover the interim period if KIA don't honour the warranty? Has anyone else had this experience or thinks it is worth it or not?
At the moment, I'm thinking of sticking with it, because it's my first car purchase and it would give me some piece of mind over the next few years. The worst that could happen is that they won't cover for a certain repair, so the maximum loss to me is the £299.
Any thoughts? I hope I've explained it clearly, but it was a bit confusing me for me to start with!

when i got a 1yr warranty with my car it started after the manufacturer one ran out which had 3 months left on it, the policy should have a start date on it, if it starts after the kia warranty the AA wont fix anything before that date0

Hmm thanks. He definitely said it would cover me for the rest of the KIA warranty period - it was the main selling point! I haven't completed yet and I haven't received the paperwork for the warranty yet, so the 14 day cooling off period hasn't actually started. I think I will query it when I go to collect the car and see what they say.0

In that case it would be a 4year AA warranty not a 1year, sounds fishy to me but im no expert, read the documents carefully , mine was with the RAC and had a clear start and end date0

Why not ring Kia and ask if the car will be covered by their warranty?

Also ring the AA, and ask if their warranty covers a car that's not been serviced in accordance with manufacturer schedule. And look closely at the exclusions...
I'd be very surprised if an aftermarket warranty sold in 2015 really did allow you to not "take it up" until 2018-19 - and I'd want it in writing from the warranty provider. B'sides, what happens if the car's written off or you sell it before then? It most certainly won't cover you for "anything the Kia warranty doesn't cover" until then. Not least because it won't cover a lot of stuff that the manufacturer warranty does. Oh, and the manufacturer warranty won't cover very much after seven years, since almost everything will be down to wear and tear - especially with a dodgy early service history...
There's enough used Kias about to not buy one that's got a dodgy service history and potentially void warranty. And, frankly, I wouldn't believe a salesman from a car supermarket if he told me what the weather was doing, without going outside and looking for myself.0 -
A kia 7 year warranty is non transferable UNLESS its a manufacturers/Dealer approved USED KIA (basically the dealer has made specific checks on the vehicle that would meet approvals by KIA to transfer the warranty on to the next purchaser), a certificate from the dealer to say the 7 years warranty period is approved for use for the next purchaser should be shown to you if not then there is NO warranty from kia if past the 3 year old mark.
key piece of warranty info is this
"The 7- year warranty applies to Kia cars bought from an authorised Kia dealer, and it is
registered and normally used in the UK". taken from

The warranty link you give explicitly says...
"The warranty transfers to each new owner as long as it hasn’t expired"0 -
If the Car Giant salesman said it, then it must be true.
Check to see what is covered and whether there is a cost limit.Je suis sabot...0 -
That's referring to a car supplied new through the UK chain, rather than a grey/parallel import.

But I'm not seeing anything saying used purchases have to be through the approved-used to maintain the original warranty. Quite the opposite.0
