I worked in the VOA for 35 years, the last 12 spent settling CT appeals, taking appeals to Tribunals and sales evidence showed house prices dropping from 1989 through 1991 to 1995. The Valuation Tribunal accepted this price drop and frequently quoted it in their appeal decisions.
The VOA have details of virtually every property sale in the country, so will have the evidence. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
I know this doesn't work for my area. I know how much my last property was worth in 1991, and how much it sold for a couple of months ago. Using this index gives it a grossly exaggerated price in 1991.
Also, using the price I paid a couple of months ago for my current property, and the price I know it sold for in 1995, the Nationwide calculation also shows this as higher than it was.0
