If I make an appeal to request a change in my council tax band, what information is made public?
I have found the online button to press to make the appeal, but am unsure what information the public will be able to see. Will they be able to see the detail of my argument?

If you appeal went to a Tribunal, then it could certainly be in the public domain. Not sure about on line appeal form itself, as I had left VOA before these were introduced.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

I think I've had a bit of a breakthrough on this.
I was planning on using an argument comparing my property with one down the road. They were both on the market earlier this year, and I viewed them both.
However, I looked on the Land Registry website, and found my house on there. This information is not on Rightmove/Zoopla. It sold in 1995 for £117,500, so should be a band E. It's band F at the moment.
Will this argument alone be enough? I don't want to risk dragging the house down the road into Band F when it's Band E at the moment. Should I just point out my house sold for under £120k in 1995 and leave out any other arguments?0 -
Did it previously get rebanded after a sale?
If you make improvements, such as an extension or loft conversion, it makes no difference to the person living there... however, when it's sold it will get rebanded upwards.... this happened to me, went from a band B to D.... so previosul owners sold it and said it was a bad B btu when I went to organise to pay the council tax, it had been changed to D0 -
All the information I have is that a small extension to the front was done in 1968, and the larger extension to the back and addition of 4th bedroom were done around 1986. There would have been no reason to revalue it subsequent to the 1991 valuation.0

Sounds like you may well already be in the right band then. Does the house you are comparing to have similar extensions?0 -

Why does it sound like I'm in the right band? All extension work was done to this house before April 1991. I cannot find any work done after this. It sold for under £120K in 1995. This seems like evidence that I'm in the wrong band.
Of course my neighbour has similar extensions, otherwise I would not be comparing it!0 -

No idea of the state of repair, but I have paperwork showing it had a new kitchen in 1991 so it must have been reasonable or good. Another property down the road also sold for under £120l in 1995 so it seems like that was a realistic price.

1991 prices in most areas were up to 25% higher than those in 1995, so Band F probably is correct.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
