Keeping cool in tiny room.

I am in student accomodation over summer for a few nights a week, but they are roasting hot even on a day when its pouring with rain and both windows wide open I assume due to the fact rooms are squashed next to each other.

So even with both windows open and extractor fan on almost all day in bathroom its sweaty hot.

I can bring a large fan down from my main property but that will be awkward to carry on bus and train and means in like 5 weeks when course is over I have to bring it back so is using a fan the only way?

I live in the Philippines and Air Con is very expensive to run to the only thing that stops me melting is a fan. Surely you can get parents to invest in a small cheap one.

    Are you in the UK?
Has someone forgotten to switch the heating off in your student accommodation?

Get yourself a pile of face flannels (cheap from the market), a cheap washing up bowl and some ice cube trays.

Make lots of ice cubes, tip them into the bowl, chuck the flannels in ... and stick the flannels, one at a time, on your head.

You can get decent fans in Argos for under £20 - considerably under that if you don't want it to last more than a year or two. Much easier to transport a desktop size.

Its always like that even in winter, and no the heating is not on I assume its more ventilation than anything since the long term tenants say its hot then too, its converted ex council offices which are above ground floor and in fact you can see the roof of another building outside my window(I could with little effort walk on the roof)

Before opening all the windows, check if it's actually warmer outside than inside. If it is, keep the windows closed until the evening to keep the heat out.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

My house is cooler inside than out at the moment. But to make sure it stays that way I keep blinds drawn where necessary, windows just ajar to get air circulating but without allowing the heat outside to get in and switch off passive sources of heat where possible (PCs etc).

I've lived in a flat in a far hotter country without A/C and it really shouldn't be necessary, although a small fan can help. Buy a cheap one and leave it or gift it or carry it home.

So you open the windows all day when it's hot outside and turn on the extractor which sucks the hot outside air in and you are wondering why the room is so hot

Close the windows and cover them during the day, then open them only when the out side is cooler than in.

Make sure you leave the blinds/curtains closed during the day while the sun is facing your room.
