cancelled flight in the states

Hi I wondered if anyone can advise me as to wether I have a claim or not. I recently booked a flight with an american airline from Heathrow to Memphis which changed at Chicago. All started well until we arrived at Chicago to find the onward flight to Memphis had been cancelled and we had a wait of approx 8 hours. Would this be classed as two seperate journey's or one complete journey

there is mixed opinion. It sounds like the flight departing the EU was not affected and the entire issue was outside of the EU on a non-EU airline. As far as I know, none of the NWNFs will take this type of case on so it will be down to someone to try and test it through the court system as there is no precedent.
This may be worth a read however is slightly different as relates to a small delay resulting in a missed flight outside the EU and is waiting appeal
