Speeding ticket advise please

Hi guys

I'm after a touch of advise; about a month ago I was caught by a Policeman with a radar gun / speed trap near Bicester, on the A41 going south. It was completely my fault; I thought it was a 60mph dual carriageway but was actually 40mph ... I was doing 55mph.

So, the policeman pulls me into the side road, which has a lot of other people already in it. He asks me to get of the car and I comply, tells me off for speeding and writes me a ticket with my current address on it and then sends me on the way with a carbon copy of it (I still have this), saying the police will write to me to tell me what to do next.

My driving license at the time, didn't have my correct address on (I've just moved house) so literally that night when I got home, I applied for an amended version of my card license and received it a few days later. My correct address though was written on the ticket.

However, since then I haven't received any follow up letter or any further information? I assume I should have by now, after a month? Do I leave it and think I may be the luckiest person alive? Or should I inform the police? I obviously don't want to get into any further trouble but likewise don't want to incur points and a fine :( I have asked the new tenant at my old address if they have had any post and they say no but who knows.

Some advise would be really good please

Many thanks in advance

Tom

    Hi Tom,

As you were given a verbal NIP at the roadside, the CPS have 6 months to lay it before the courts.

If you want some idea of possible penalties and good advice, you may want to post over at the Pepipoo specialist forum:

    Hope this helps

Irony of ironies ... I got home last night to a nice envelope from the Police containing my notification and £100 fine :(

Oh well, many thanks for the advice.

It's a pity you've got an FPN, rather than an invite to a speed awareness course. One of the things they remind you of is how to tell at a glance what the speed limit is.

    Motorways - 70 unless reminders
Otherwise, if there's streetlights and no reminders - 30
If there's no streetlights or reminders - 60 on single carriageway, 70 on dual
    ANY other limit - reminders...

Of course. NSL for larger vehicles may differ.

55 in a 40, good result, could easily have been court appearance for that much over the limit

Unlikely. The usual starting point for a summons is 66.

I think I was 1mph over the speed awareness course limit.

I do understand this was completely my fault but having been back down that road (which was previously a 60 mph dual carriageway) there is only one 40 mph sign, partly obscured by a tree and on the wrong side as you come off the roundabout; you're instinctively looking to the left / straight down the road to check for traffic from the feeder lane ... the sign is on the right hand side, right next to this.

    Check the location here:

    google.co.uk/maps/@51.892524,-1.162183,3a,75y,225.94h,89.96t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sdMzR0WahRGQfyr2LouJ6_w!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1

and spin round to see the roundabout

As I say, my fault ..but judging by the amount of other cars pulled over, I wasn't the only one baffled by this.

Anyway, got to take my medicine now

    Thanks again

is it not 10% +2 for speed awareness? so that would be 46mph?
