    SWIFT is an international payments network, not a code.
    I guess they can 'flag' suspicious transactions.

    SWIFT themselves can't, but systems at one or both banks can. SWIFT just passes on messages.

    I would post on the Matched Betting board and see if anyone else on there has had problems withdrawing money from Costa Bingo and if they were eventually paid.

    Costa bingo have paid. It's the OP's friends bank who will not release the money.
