Thomson Flight Experience

Hi. I have recently received a compensation offer of £25.00 for a horrifically bad experience when flying with Thomson from the Dominican Republic to Gatwick. On boarding the flight in punta cana I was told my seat was broke and that it could not be used. The flight was full. The only option I had was to sit on a flight attendants pull down seat for the 9 hour flight 24 rows away from family and friends. Clearly this was not a pleasurable experience and one from which the service I received did not corroborate with the monies paid. Thomson have been poor in responding and now they offer a derisory sum of £25.00 for what quite frankly was the worst flight I have been on. Any Advice welcome. Thanks.

It may just be me, but I think I'd be shooting for the cost of the flight back, £25 though seems very stingy considering the inconvenience!

I'm really surprised that TOM would permit a non staff member or travel industry employee to sit in a crew jump seat for the full duration of the flight. I've known it before to allow a passenger to eat their meal when the front forward seat is reclined and the seat can't be placed upright therefore causing a problem for the passenger behind, but never for the whole flight.

If this was the case then I'm surprised that such a small level of compensation was offered.
  • My thoughts exactly. I was directed to sit in the flight attendants seat towards the rear of first class. I have photographic evidence of both my original damaged seat and the seat I was asked to sit in. These were both attached to the complaint. I paid for a service which I did not receive and am therefore disgusted with the £25.00 offer. What action would people now take? Thanks.
  • Did you pay to prebook your seats? (Because this should be refunded as well, and I would push for all of the seats as you all paid to sit together)

I definitely would not accept £25, that is a total slap in the face, just explain this to them and just say that £25 is no where near the mark and that you would like them to properly investigate your complaint.

Also did you have the facilities that you would normally get? (TV to watch, drinks offered throughout etc)

A letter rejecting the offer, stating what you want (specifically) and requesting a response within 14 days.

If that response is unsatisfactory a final letter giving notice of intended court action if they don't improve it further.

Then off to the county court claiming the full cost of the flight.

Where did the cabin crew member sit that would normally have been occupying that seat? There isn't usually any spares. I'm very surprised they allowed a member of the public to sit in one for the entire flight.
  • I did not pay to prebook the seats, it was just fortunate that my wife and several of our friends were sat within 3 rows of each other (well they were when we boarded the plane). I did not have any in flight entertainment nor was I able to drink any alcohol due to the fact that I was sat next to an emergency exit. The plane used for the flight was a Thomson Dreamliner and one of the reasons we booked with them as opposed to other agents. I am not sure where the flight attendant sat although someone did sit opposite me during take off and landing.

Strange: I have often had alcoholic drinks while sitting beside emergency exits.

Thomson charge extra for alcohol, but you had certainly paid for the in-flight entertainment.

Next time wait until the last minute and ask to be offloaded and put on the next flight (assuming you have luggage in the hood). Suddenly they'll find a solution to avoid missing their take off slot while offloading your luggage.

Otherwise Thomson have probably completed their legal obligations to get you from point A to point B. So I don't think legal action will get you anywhere.

I'm booked on the dream liner and I thought alcohol was included?
