Recommendations for loud pattern fabric

  • i thought this too - a fabric that is 'modern' now is going to look dated and old-fashioned in a few years

Thank you I too had that fear, but my hope is to find a fabric I fall in love with and then it won't matter about how old fashioned it looks, it will be a statement that I love.

I always use walls and windows as my loud detailing, and the furnishings etc are plain

    Thanks

Designers Guild always have very bold patterns in lovely bright colourways. Definitely not cheap, but extremely high quality. Their website will show you the stockists nearest to you and they do supply small samples, but you would need to contact a stockist to enquire about pricing as they don't do online orders.

I'm pricing up one of their cotton fabrics to make a pair of curtains for my little girl's bedroom. It's £38 per metre just to give you a rough idea as to cost, though fabrics such as the pure linens and the cut velvets are substantially more.

    Ok, I get that :)
You want loud/modern because that happens to be what you like, rather than because it's what's fashionable at the moment.....

I'm the same, I'm sure some people would think my house is very unfashionable but I don't care, it's what I like :)

I really don't get "fashion" when it comes to interior decoration. Surely if you like it now you'll still like it in a few years?

I am rather in love with this fabric, but at William Morris prices I can't justify it, so looking for another fabric

I'm a big William Morris fan myself but his designs are pricey. If you don't mind 2nd hand lots of people sell Morris curtains on ebay, you may just find what you are looking for.

I agree, but interior decoration does go through trends.
At various points in the last few decades it was all chintzy, then it was all dado rails and two different patterned papers above and below, more recently it's been all neutral colours or one feature wall with a huge bold print...... and so on. Some people like to keep up with every new trend and redecorate every few years accordingly.

Just have what you like I say :D

I agree with that. I've just had some lovely (now vintage) Laura Ashley wallpaper put up that I've been moving round the country for 30 years and I still love it!

Ikea's materials can be quite loud.

I am afraid ready made curtains are out as my window is huge, 5 metres wide and high, so an enormous amount of fabric needed.

    5 metres.. 16 feet???

    Are you sure?

Most rooms are only about 7 or 8 feet high. Do you live in the Tate Modern building :rotfl:
