As i say take them to the boss (but always keep them !) and have a moan. Keep the identity of the driver under wraps.
At the same time start the appeal.
Dear Sirs,
I, as registered keeper, wish to invoke your appeals procedure. The driver was a genuine customer (see attached receipts) and did not see any signs.
Should you reject my appeal please supply a popla code.

I assume it's parkingeye and they are not bad at cancelling when confronted by decent spends. If a popla code is received give me a shout.
