I guess it's like a lot of things - "the more I find out, the less I know" - as part of my "struggles to understand" are by concentrating on detail and being pedantic rather than taking a step back to 'the gist'. "The north" (and "the south") are ill-defined. Most people tend to have their own view as to whereabouts those areas are - even if they (probably) never precisely define them - they're probably happy with the general concept and can hold such fuzzy concepts in their mind quite happily as most people (seem to me to) do. They don't need therefore to define things precisely, as most people (probably you) don't.
Whereas I work by trying to aggregate everyone's differing ideas in order to reach an objective view and then find I'm left dithering, indecisive and unable to make a decision as no view is any more valid than any other and thus I can neither accept or reject any of them as being any more decisive than any other.
I therefore do not know (or no longer know) precisely what "the north" is. Although (I used to be) happy with the general concept.
I used to have a general idea. Now, after considering things in detail, I no longer know.
Meanwhile, again after considering detailed wording:rotfl: - and the "trouble" is people generally are just not exact and precise - it would, in my contention, actually help people if terms were used precisely, accurately and pedantically, as then there would be a clear meaning but they never are - people vary between themselves in their descriptions of things for one matter - and, like human beings, they are almost never consistent.
This time, there's confusion as to what is within M's "Plant" Shop:rotfl:. Not that it matters in any substantive way at all:rotfl::rotfl:.
I have various plants described as M Plant Shop, yet I have another "plant" - "M Plant" says the sticker - being described as "M Flower Shop..." (not "Plant Shop") on the labelling. So, a "plant" is a "flower"? I thought plants were plants and flowers were flowers. Now, however - and it doesn't matter:rotfl: - at least one plant appears to have joined the "flowers" and thus is not a "plant" at all as it's not explicitly described as being part of the "Plant Shop" range - M Flower Shop House Plant Gerbera?!? :huh:How it can be a "Plant" when it's part of the "Flower" shop?
I hope this helps for you, a little more, to "understand my mind".:) It's how I tend to think - although, in reality, I know that this situation above (between "plants" and "flowers" and failure to maintain absolutely consistent description) isn't an issue - it doesn't have any practical relevance to anything - and, in practice, doesn't make much odds so I can deal with it. All it is that I think about it for a short time - and I'm a very thoughtful person. So, it doesn't bother me at all that plants and flowers are now, apparently, interchangeable, as it doesn't have any effect to the status of any item on the list for example (but I'll just describe it, pedantically, the way they have, as a "Flower" shop "plant"). It's when descriptions are not precise that they might make things seem not strictly comparable, or when it is not totally clear what exactly and exhaustively (in terms of a product or products) is covered by a particular description, that's when I have more issue.0 -

"I'll give you an unexpected item in your bagging area!"
http://conversation.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/self-service-checkouts-swearing-supermarkets/
In fact, I have the opposite 'problem' and wish that I could bring myself to say things that I don't even when with most people I know - I come across as formal, pedantic and with an odd prosody - it's not the true me and I wish that I wasn't that way.
I find this comment particularly odd (from my perspective):
"I once swore at the machine at my local Tesco, and although I didn’t say the words out loud a shop assistant read my lips perfectly. Her eyebrows shot up and her jaw dropped. This shamed me into not doing that again. I now approach these machines when I need them with calm and equanimity…"
I have no idea why anyone should change simply because one person, on one occasion, had their eyebrows move up or their jaw drop. Best do it in a different direction next time:D. I also find the concept of being "shamed" rather odd - as "shame" seems a very strong word (in a different sense!) to me.
Why is it "shame"? And what is the cause of that? (Seems to reflect more their own anxieties than anything else - and, there, I have no truck with emotion:rotfl:.) Then again, I find the entire concept of having "swear"words to be objectively very strange - and, as again different people have different ideas, I no longer know what any of them are anymore, although I do not seek any views as to that.
I don't mind shouting out loud next time though that "I'll give you an unexpected item in your bagging area!" as that sounds rather funny:rotfl::rotfl:. My own 'vote' is for that way.
Anyway, it's not as if we can't imagine what that person might have mouthed presumably so, if it's offensive, we shouldn't be discussing it at all and I'm still offended by that:o:o:rotfl:.
Even though it's not said out (i.e. not said "loud", presumably so that people could hear - regardless of whether it's literally "loud" or not), it's still being classed as "swearing" at the machine?!? Next time, I think I'll calmly swear at the machine:rotfl::rotfl: (but not so that anyone over the age of 24 or under 2 and a half can hear:rotfl:).
