Cheery_Daff said:Aw bless her edwink xxx Hope she makes a full recovery. I don't think we've ever had one with sour crop, thank goodness. I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to tip them to empty the crop, I'd be so scared of doing it wrong and choking them. It is indeed awful when they're ill!
Bonny did another dropping yesterday with some rubbery yellow stuff in, so I'm glad she's going to the vets on Thursday as clearly whatever's going on in there isn't clearing up. She's still acting fine, but I'd rather get it seen to.
I didn't realise there was a sewing thread edwink! Clearly need to get myself over there. I've been using up some of my stash making cushions from an old duvet, and cushion covers from fabric I've had lying round for years, this week. Will investigate 😊
Poor Bonny 😥😥😥 I remember you mentioning a while ago that Bonny had the same problem but it comes and goes with her, bless her. I do feel that we poultry keepers know when it is time to take any of our girls to the vets. Luckily we only had two visits last year and that was for the same hen with the 2nd visit just to check she was ok again. Our vet is a hen keeper herself and she almost knows the in and outs of a hen which is useful for poultry keepers around this way. I know your vets are quite a drive away but it doesn't matter what the distance is it is trusting them to treat your girls quickly and with the respect they deserve, I always think. All the same, though I still feel for you with the journey you have to undertake each time. I do hope it goes ok at the vets for you x
Yes, do come over to the sewing thread. It's called "No Craft Spending - I WILL bust my stash and make pretty things!!!!!". It isn't compulsory but we can state the number of items you are going to make in any given year and also the amount we may spend during that year to carry out crafting things. I stated at the start that I would make 25 things and spend up to £50 this year. I added some needles and a new pair of fabric cutting scissors to my allowed £50 a while ago and others on there said posters do not need to include items we NEED for completing tasks. So I will happily take those spends off my total when I get a minute 🤣🤣🤣 In one of my early posts, I posted a few pictures of some curtains I bought off eBay to make a pair of dungarees, you might spot them if you have time to have a read of the thread whilst you are "meant" to be resting 😊😊😊 There are some great pictures on there of what others have made and some really useful present ideas too.

Hi everyone
Good news here is that my little poorly girl is so much better today. She came running over to me this morning and parked herself right by my feet and just stood there looking up at me. Considering Mr Edwink had tipped her up and we made her be sick I think she is very forgiving already 🤣🤣🤗🤗 I crouched down and checked her crop and it was no longer squishy and it felt normal, hoorah.
There is not much that is "NORMAL" about hens as a rule though is there? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
We are chuffed to bits.

Excellent news indeed edwink! So pleased to hear that xxx
Bonny has been looking a bit off colour today, so I'm glad we're off to the vets tomorrow. She had a big dropping stuck to her tail feathers, bless her, so we had to catch her and give it a wash. She made such a fuss, as she always does on the odd occasion we have to catch her - goodness knows how we'll catch her to get to the vets tomorrow. But it really did need washing off. She's always had a tendency towards soft eggs and a mucky bum, so I'm hoping this implant will sort her out. Also hoping we've caught it in time - she's seemed fine so we were just doing it as a precaution really, but today she's spent an awful lot of time sitting down 🙄2 -
Thank you so much sammyjammy and Cheery 😊😊
Hope it all goes well for Bonny at the vets tomorrow, Cheery 🐔 Please do let us know how you get on.

Hi everyone
My little hen is still doing ok and now looks so much better than she did 👍 I was frightened that we may have lost her because she looked so ill in such a short space of time. They are little bu**ers sometimes because hens are well known for hiding any ailments they have as they really do not want to appear weaker than the others. Hens can be naughty sometimes and pick on a poorly hen so it is always best to act quickly if you notice a change in a hen because often there is no telling how long they have hidden an ailment for, bless them.
I'll still carry on keeping an eye on her just in case it happens again. Fingers crossed it doesn't.

Glad your little hen is doing ok edwink, that's lovely to hear 😊😊
Realised I never reported back after our vet trip. Bonny Chicken was NOT impressed, and still hasn't forgiven Mr Cheery for catching her 2 days in a row 🙄 She was ok in the car, and in the consulting room when I was holding her, but when they took her in the ba k to do the implant it took 3 of them, and they brought her back saying 'she's got a bit of an attitude, that one!' 🙄
It's hard to tell how's she's doing because she's so wary, and takes herself off anytime she spots us. She's still eating and pottering round with the others. The implant always makes them quiet for a week or two while they adjust, and it was a bit odd this time as apparently she had an egg in development, and that wouldn't usually be the case when they did an implant. There's no guidance though because it's only licenced for dogs and ferrets! I have no idea if she laid it - the implant stops them producing new eggs, but theoretically takes a few days to kick in, so she should have laid that one fine, but there's no way to tell because we can't catch her again to check...
Hey ho, so all fingers crossed that she makes a good recovery like your little hen edwink 😊2 -
Hey Edwink and Cheery!
I’m glad to hear your patients are doing well, it’s awful when they’re poorly. Ours are both a good age now, I keep worrying they’ll get ill. Buffy is 6 and Ginger is 4; they do have a sheltered life but that does seem old for hens!My son still doesn’t like them. And it’s upset the pecking order as Ginger now chases him, he’s been demoted. I’m going to have to help him be brave and stand up to her.3 -
Hi everyone
This is definitely NOT good news.......

For goodness sake eh? I'm pretty close to Bedfordshire but not in the ZONE, thankfully. Unless it spreads of course then mine will be back into chicken lockdown 😢😢😢😢😢😢
