Oooh dear! We got our first hens last August. We were going on holiday 2 weeks later. And on the day we were going one was looking really sick all tucked up into herself not really moving about. Drinking lots but not eating. So we had to do an emergeny vet visit. She also had a lump on her cheek. They put her under gas and checked her. She had an abcess so had to have tynol or how ever you spell it lol! Thankfully we were only an hour away so hubby drove home 2 days in a row to give the antibiotics until she started to look better then handed over to our chicken sitter! But that was a bit of being thrown in the deep end too! Oh 1 week after we got them the tray was full of black bugs under the paper! Geeze its a steep learning curve. I haven't done any mite control since but feel like I should be although we have an eglu and no wood ...

Argh! It's 2 weeks tomorrow since I started worming with Flub. I am now seeing worm eggs back in one birds poo. They are round and white not rice grain like like tape worm. It seemed the Flub worked to get rid as I haven't seen any for the 2 weeks but now they are back ... Shall I upgrade to Panacur or do a 2nd dose of flub? Do I need to Flub for the roundworm at day 21? And any other treatment after or just that one?

Sorry for the delay in posting. We are currently having new windows installed and there is mess everywhere and the house is so cold without glass in the windows. Be good when it is all done, I guess.
I hadn't heard of Panacur, to be honest, but Googling it does indicate it is good for roundworms, can be bought over the counter, and is easy to use by just adding it to the hens drinking water. So I would probably say that is worth a go. From what you say it is only one hen that now has the worms but as they are in such close contact the roundworms could very easily spread to the others quite quickly. Therefore putting the Panacur in their water will treat all your girls. I do hope that helps them, bless 'em.

Hi everyone
Hope all is good with you all and your feathered friends 😊
All ok here with my girls and little Hoppy which is good. Porridge for lunch for them which they enjoy and a little bowl of rice for Hoppy which she loves. Also gave them all some mealworms today which didn't last long once they were scattered about.
Family wise not too good at the moment. A few of them are unwell with Covid and it is starting to spread between them and the family members they have been in contact with. Wider family-wise we have an 85 year old who is pretty poorly with it right now which is a worry 😢
Rebekah..... How are your girls now with the worm issue?. I do hope you managed to get the Panacur and if so it is helping to get rid of the worms.
Cheery..... How is everything with you and your girls? Hope all is ok.
Must mention Ukraine and those poor people, bless their hearts. What a terrible time they are having, my heart goes out to them. What a frightening time they are all going through. I wish it would all end for them and their families. It's horrible, just horrible,

Ello Ello! All good here. Wormgate is ongoing. As its past 21 days I am retreating with flub as we did have an active roundworm problem. I can still see the little eggs but they seem to only be on the poo not in it which is weird. And not that many when I checked on Sunday. Will clean them out again tomorrow. If I still see them I will get panacure. Not sure how long the egg withdrawal is on that thing though! I had read a month which seems a long time! This year we need to build a permanant fixture in light of future lockdowns so designing that thing will be fun. Ha! Oh yes the war its horrific. Last week I was really worrying about it and loosing a lot of sleep over it. I am so terrified of pukin setting off his nukes on us and us being in the same place. Keep wondering if we should be emigrating to Australia whilst we can! Any way enough of that or I won't sleep again! x

Hi Rebekah
I am glad the worm problem is not as bad as it was, it certainly sounds like you are nearly there with getting rid of the blooming things. I've just Googled Panacur and egg withdrawal and found the following:-
Egg withdrawal for chickens: Intervet (who make Panacur) advised 7 days following the last day of treatment. Length of treatment: 7 to 10 days (dosage is repeated after 7 to 10 days)
Also found this:-
The medication should take effect in 1 to 2 days, but visible effects will take the entire duration of treatment to be recognised.
Hope that is some help to you.

Hi everyone
Went out to my girls run today to give them some treats at lunchtime and found one of my girls had died 😢 I found her tucked in by the dividing chicken wire wall between the hens and Hoppy. Bless her, out of all the 12 years I have kept hens there is only one other occasion that this has happened where one has died in the run itself. Mostly if they are very old hens you would find them in a nesting box or in their hotel somewhere when you open up in the morning.
Hope everyone and their hens are ok.

Oh edwink, how sad 😢😢😢 was she poorly, or was it completely unexpected? What a shock for you. RIP little feathery one, off to the great dust bath in the sky xxx
We are all OK here, nothing to report, thank goodness. Touch wood, everyone seems ok (I'm always reluctant to say that, just in case). Just been up to tuck them into bed and they all seem nice and cosy. We've been shopping tonight, and threw some grapes in the trolley for them to have a little treat tomorrow 😊2 -

Hi Cheery
Yes, totally unexpected and quite a shock to be honest as they are all fully feathered, look beautiful, are playing me up as per usual. and eating me out of house and home. I know what you mean about being reluctant to say so I do understand. That's why I say things like "they are playing me up", meaning all ok and harmony in the camp.
GRAPES...... Who said grapes? my hens love them so you have nudged me to get them some when we next go shopping. I do like the way we spoil our hens on here 😀😀😀
