Thanks for the info on posting pics Pyxis. Most kind of you. Now all I need to know is how to resize them if possible because my dear old Pingu is taking up the whole page.  There must be something somewhere that allows us to resize these pics I guess.

    Any ideas anyone, please?

I shouldn’t worry....... they’re not too bad on my iPad, and resizing is such a faff.

We are also grateful for our vets too. They are around 10 miles away from us but that's not too far for a poorly hen or duck to travel wrapped up nice and cosy in a basket. You should see the children's faces if we take one of ours there.  We will allow children to sit next to them and stroke them lightly if they sit still enough and don't move too quickly so our feathered friend is not upset by it.  Bless 'em.

We should be outside doing something constructive today but gave ourselves a day off except for feathered friends essentials like feed, water, and some cuddles. Hoppy is currently on our lawn sunning herself by a huge bowl of clean water, bless her.

Edwink, if you are still able to edit your very first post on this thread, did you know that you could  put some hen and duck emoticons on the title heading, if you have any on your computer keyboard.?
For example, this 🐓and this 🦆 are on my iPad’s keyboard display of emoticons, so it would go on the title bar. I have put various appropriate emoticons on the threads I opened in The Arms!
It doesn’t seem to work with ‘imported’ emoticons, only with the ones on my iPad, but it jazzes up the title and makes it stand out in the list of thread titles!
Thanks Pyxis I didn't know that was possible. I'll give it a go. Fingers crossed it works.

ETA - I've managed to add some to the post itself but not on the actual heading.  Although I can change the text in the heading if I want to.  I'll have a think on it and see what I come up with on how to get some on there.  Great idea, thank you x

Edwink, you can only use the emoticons on your computer keyboard for the thread heading.

For example, on my iPad keyboard emoticons,  there are 🐓🦆, so I can use those, but I can’t use any emoticons brought in from anywhere else, iyswim.

Do you have a hen and duck on your keyboard?

Re. this ^^^ I have a little plastic hen from the 50s I think, that lays eggs when you push it down.
I know they made them later as well, but mine is an old one! It’s in my ‘cabinet of curiosities’!

    STOP PRESS!

This is a repeat, but for those who haven’t seen it, or who’d like to see it again:

”The Private Life Of Chickens”  BBC4,  7pm, Saturday (11th)

    Chicken facts..........
    First domesticated 8000 years ago!
Chickens now outnumber every other bird!

“The programme tries to find out what goes on in their brains, ..........and how they establish a pecking order, ..............and become convinced that we should show these birds more respect”.

I’ve set my TV recorder to get it.

Thanks pyxis - we watched that a while ago and I can highly recommend!

Sad days here. Mildred chicken is hanging on, but only just. At the vets on Monday we brought her home to die here as she was still walking round and eating, just getting slower. Tuesday I sat outside all day and she pottered around a bit but mainly sat by my chair. Yesterday again I sat out all day (working! Not just staring into space!) and she was even more still, didn't eat much.

Today she didn't even come out of the hen house 😥 We gave her a bit of food and water, and now Mr Cheery's brought her out to sit by my chair again. Can't see her lasting long now 😥 I'm torn between feeling glad we brought her home as she's had several days in the sunshine with the others, and feeling like we should have let the vet put her to sleep on Monday 😥 Not a decision I've ever had to make before and I still have no idea if we did the right thing. She doesn't seem distressed, just snoozing in the sunshine.

I'm distraught though (and also feeling very silly for being so upset). Who'd have thought I'd get in such a state over a chicken? (Well actually I could easily have predicted this - I'm a complete and utter softy at the best of times...)

Anyway, hope you and all your feathered friends are well xx

So sorry to hear of Mildred's predicament, Cheery :( of course you're upset.  She's not in pain, though, is she?  Otherwise, I'm sure you're taking the right course of action.  Be gentle with yourself, as well as her <3

She’s sitting in the  sunshine next to someone who loves her, Cheery. What better end to a life could any animal, or person, for that matter, hope for? ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
