Deja vu..............................Had to check that this thread wasn't a couple of years old. Same old tired phrases are still being thrown into posts again.
As for the calculator. It's there in W10 and it does the same job it always has. In fact it works better than the old one.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Windows 10 lets you put those apps into proper resizable windows which is much better.0 -

I've methodically changed the default association of every filetype that launched an app to a program either one distributed with windows or one I've downloaded. I virtually never see to Metro interface at all and never want to.
I agree that Metro is probably the single stupidest idea Microsoft ever came up with, and thank goodness W10's selling point is that it isn't W8.1. Who on earth thought I'd want Skype to run full screen, with acres of wasted screen real estate I have no idea. Truly dreadful decision by someone, and probably why Ballmer was booted by his own staff and board trying to use the damn interface.
That said, the word 'application' is every bit as valid as 'programme' to describe a pile of code that does stuff. It has nothing to do with running modally full-screen, Metro, or anything else. Indeed 'API's' are Application Programming Interfaces, and are headerless, without any UI whatsoever0
