win 10 (preview) , no calculator installed , seems a few more bits and bats have gone as well

there is a calculator in "windows APPS store" , however I am using a computer , not a bloody mobile phone , I DON'T DO APPS on my computer.

EDIT: SHMBO has just installed it , brilliant , it only works under the std (crap) tablet type start screen , not classic shell

I've been using <Calc98> for a few years now and always have it on the task bar ready for use - mainly on MSE.

This is why they're saying Win10 will be the last Windows OS, i'm afraid they're moving toward a phone/tablet like OS where everything is an extra downloadable "app". Which is also why they're doing it as a free upgrade to older windows OS.

It's a real step backward imo.

Windows has not been an OS for years it is a bloated bundle of applications and libraries.

A core OS, where you add the libraries and applications you need is the way it should be done.

yeah, what happened to "programs" ?? The whole "let's-rename-it-so-we're-down-with-the-kids" bit is a bit much for my liking....

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

'Programme' (or 'Program') vs 'Application', hardly a big deal.

Well then there's a market for a proper working operating system.
Because if people wanted to buy a toy, they'd buy a toy.
If they want to do work, they'll buy a tool that let's them do that work.

however , we will end up like "playstore" £5 for this £9.99 for that etc ,

that's the difference between a OS that had the needed tools (upto win 8) and OSs that follow (pay for tools?)

Unless I'm missing something it is a big deal. On this 8.1 laptop any app opened runs full screen and I'd like to have more than a single window open at any time even on a laptop. On my desktop with a big monitor it's a 100% must.

I've methodically changed the default association of every filetype that launched an app to a program either one distributed with windows or one I've downloaded. I virtually never see to Metro interface at all and never want to.
