in Credit cards
Hello,
I'm looking at opening a 0% purchases card for around 20 month period (looking at Tesco, Santander, Halifax)
Im trying to borrow up to £5-6K, Does anyone have any experience of which banks in general offers a higher credit limit?
I realise there are many factors involved in the decision, I have a good credit rating, Im mortgage free and still working.
Many thanks,
Dave

Unlikely that you will get that amount for your first card.
Personally, I have been offered highest limits by Capital One and Barclaycard, but have no idea what they would offer you.0 -
MBNA are anecdotally quite generous.0

Yes, I have found this as well. I would say they give higher credit limits than just about any other card provider.0 -

Where as they declined me but subsequently got £9,000 and £7,500 limits from Barclaycard and Cap1 - and Cap1 "apologised" that the limit was so low because of the product I had chosen was capped at that, they offered another product which would have had a higher limit but didnt mention what it'd be
The problem is that each lender has its own criteria and so one persons experience can be very different to the next.0 -

Not sure about the regular Halifax, but when I went for the Halifax Clarity Card fairly recently (I wanted it for the fee-free currency conversion between Euros and GBP) They gave me a 7k Credit Limit right off the bat.
I do have a reward current account with Halifax, although it's just part of my monthly-standing-order cycle and never has more than £800 in it.
I applied for a new Tesco Credit Card (and clubcard) last month when my LUMA and CapitalOne Cards stopped accruing Cashback. The initial limit I've been given on it is 5.5k. Never had a previous clubcard or any account with Tescos before.
My old CapitalOne card has a 7.5k limit on it. Not sure what the limit on the Luma is, but since it's technically through CapitalOne as well it wouldn't be too far off.0 -
I got a fluid card from MBNA with £20K straight from application. Highest I have had by a long way.0

i would suggest MBNA for high limits too, along with Barclaycard---although despite having my highest limit ever with them now, they seem to vary more than MBNA.
of Tesc/Sant/Halifax i would say either of the latter two. Tesco have always been very cautious ime, whereas the others have been varied.0 -
It always seems so wrong. I borrow £20000 for 16 months 0% APR. Then I'd turn the telly on and there'd be an advert for a payday loan. £100 for a week. 3000% APR0

saying this, a friend of mine got this card recently.. he has another card (think its Tesco) with a £4k limit, however the MBNA gave him £18k right away...
bit irresponsible but hey.. who can complain!0 -
MBNA & Barclaycard have both given me 5 figure limits straight off the bat recently.
RBS give generously too, but I think from my experience that's because I bank with them so they see my salary going in which might have helped.0
