Its very simple. I have a hifi system in the living room. I want to also be able play music in the next room without buying another system.
The cheapest options are:-
- Get a long cable to attach either the Aux-out or the headphone socket output of the hifi to a set of Computer speakers in the other room. Get speakers with a built-in amplifier and their own on-off/volume controls. (Probably £30-40).
- Get a set of speakers plus a standalone MP3 player for the second room. No actual connection with the main hifi. You'd have to rip CDs to get the music on to the MP3 player. Some Speakers can play from a USB stick, so you wouldn't need a separate MP3 player. (Probably £20-50 depending on the quality of speakers and MP3 player).
- RF-based audio extender. These seem a little trickier to get hold of than they used to be. (I suppose Bluetooth and wifi are taking over). You can buy units from about £20 on eBay. You'll also need a set of amplified speakers. (Overall cost: £40-75).0 -
Great, thanks very much. Will have a look into these options.0

I use Roth Powa 5 active speakers, with an active Roth KH30 subwoofer to play cds or stream Spotify from my laptop, using Bluetooth.
they have had good reports and I'm please with them, though they aren't as good as the huge speakers on my Sony music centre.
They are normally £249.95 for the speakers and £249 for the subwoofer, but Roth often sell 'used' stock via Ebay, at a much lower price. (They are used in that they were loaned to magazines etc for review purposes and at the moment Roth are offering pairs of speakers for £145)0
