not sure if this is the right thread...
Anyone know anything about wireless speakers?
Are they any good and if so how much do I need to spend to get decent ones?
I have a bluetooth compatible Sony hi-fi system like this http://www.amazon.com/Sony-CMTSBT100-Micro-System-Bluetooth/dp/B00DM5F19A which I assume is compatible, but I can't find anything to confirm whether this is possible.
Many thanks for any advice!

What do you need them for?
I am pretty sure your HiFi is capable of receiving music from other bluetooth devices and playing it, not of sending it. And what's the point? - it has good speakers and the range of bluetooth transmission is usually very small.0 -
The idea is to have music in another room without buying another system
It probably isn't as simple as I'd hoped!0 -
I no longer have a music system. I have a Samsung audio dock which I can use to dock an iPod or Galaxy phone, or stream music to it from iTunes on a PC. Its on my WiFi network. The sound quality is better than anything I've owned previously and being WiFi I could move it to any room in the house if I wanted to.0

You could buy a kit, The takes a speaker output, transmits it as Bluetooth, and a receiver next to your speaker in the other room.

It depends on what you are looking to do.
Bluetooth speakers are relatively cheap for a reasonable quality of output. Mine was bought at Argos for £25 - it's not elegant, but it does sound good. It can also play from a direct audio connection and a USB stick. They normally only allow you to link one sending device (a phone, tablet, laptop or PC) with one speaker. The range is reasonable (certainly potentially flat- or house-sized) although Bluetooth range can be unpredictable and will suffer drop-outs at the limit.
Wifi-based sound systems are much more flexible and can have multiple receiving speaker-sets from potentially multiple sending devices. The range is usually better and more predictable than Bluetooth, and can be easily extended. They are, however, rather more expensive than the Bluetooth speakers and slightly more complex to set up.
There is also RF-based kit, though this is often less flexible.
I agree with the above comments that a Bluetooth-enabled hifi is most likely set up to receive rather than send.
If you want a cheap solution to get started with this, I would suggest buying a Bluetooth dongle for your computer (if required) and some basic Bluetooth speakers. You can get a basic Dongle in Poundland which works reasonably well or splash out on a branded one.0 -
Thanks for the replies. Yes I suspect the bluetooth function is not meant for this and I'm not very tech-minded (still play CDs) so not interested in doing anything complicated...
Will have to go back to the drawing board and work out what to do!0 -
For short distance you can buy a bluetooth transmitter, plug it into your headphone socket then pair any bluetooth speakers or headphones and listen that way but as far as I know the transmitter will only transmit to one speaker.0

If you tell us what you want to achieve, and what kit you already have, maybe someone will come up with something for you?
At one stage, I had something as simple as a very long phono lead (15m, I think) that could be used between Aux-out and a set of computer speakers.
Before Bluetooth speakers came along, Computer Speakers were the star buy for price vs. performance. (I still have Sony Computer Speakers whose sound quality is excellent).0 -

Its very simple. I have a hifi system in the living room. I want to also be able play music in the next room without buying another system.0 -
