On line account opened four week ago, but still trying to get it activated for on line banking. What a useless system. Never had this trouble with other banking online.

Me too. I've been waiting 2 weeks for activation. Like you never had trouble with other online banks.

Really doubt if I will transfer any money into my account now with this sort of service.

I am still "awaiting authorisation" and my first BACS transfer hasn't arrived, but I really wouldn't have expected either quite yet.

I appreciate that all this anti-money laundering milarky is a pain, but I still consider it acceptable to the alternative.

There is always a trade-off between security and usability. Personally, I would always prefer a slight bias in favour of security.

Of course, there is always the possibility that SB are "a victim of their own success" and have a high level of demand, probably from hoards of MSE-ers!

Once the account is fully operational and the human factor is removed, you should only have to contend with the usual BACS transfer delays, and then only until November, when the new same-day system should start.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

The help line (an 0845 number- more money) can keep you waiting for 20 mins. Then I was politely asked to put my problems in writing and send the letter to their office in Edinburgh, together with 3 items to prove identity. All this sent by recorded delivery (more money).
Got a reply by return promising it would all be up and running in 10 days. It's 12 days now and I still have the same problem!
