No I'm never trying meds again.
I'm all for other people using them but I don't believe them to the best course of action for me.
I already have four cats lol

I can understand that. The trouble with meds is they take 3-4 weeks to kick in and as you know, the side effects can be terrible. Just don't rule it out. I know it's hard but for some people they are a real life line.

I also highly recommend mindfulness, have a look at headspace. It really helps with anxiety especially.
I had a very bad reaction to one anti depressent, it caused suicidal feelings and increased self harm BUT, i've been on many since and am now on a combination that works. However the OP's experience i can understand why they wouldn't to take meds, just anted to point out that sometimes you have to try a few before you find ones that work (though i do have bipolar so meds are kind of more a usual treatment)

My GP says they have access to online therapy programs, that can be accessed in your own home. Might something like that be useful to you? I'm pretty sure there is one specifically for anxiety so perhaps that might help? Just thinking if your agoraphobia is bad and you can;t face people an online program might help until you feel able to see people in person?

I just wondered if you've tried any support groups? They tend to be hard to find but sometimes your GP may know of some, also try Mind who may know of any in your area linked or not linked to the charity itself.

It can feel like it's impossible to go to a group or go back after the first session but if you really give it a chance groups can make a massive difference. They wont cure anything but support of others and face to face support can make a massive difference.

My papa is coming home from hospital today. Hoping that brings my stress levels back down again. Already feel like a bit of a weight has been lifted already.

No I have never heard of any anxiety support groups in my area. My GP has never mentioned any but will ask about them as I would be interested in going.

I don't know whether mental health departments still offer free relaxation yoga classes, but they are very helpful. They give a chance to take your mind elsewhere, followed by a chance to socialise with people having similar problems , with the bonus of improving your figure, too.

If no longer available, it may well be worth investing in a paid for class, though some run by councils are free to people on benefits.

Thanks everyone for your replies, they have really helped me. I went to my GP today and he said he doesn't think I am having a breakdown or anything, just a bad stressful time as I've had a lot on my plate lately. He offered me meds but I refused and he has referred me back to the mental health team. Don't know who I will see, probably a mental health nurse and then see where that goes.

I managed to get out for a little again today. Still panicked at the start and felt better the longer I was out but was still on edge. Back home now and feel a lot better than I did earlier.

Mindfullness is very good practice, but it is like a lot of things - better done in a class.

Some NHS areas offer it free for people with certain conditions - mental & physical. I have a chronic physical condition that flares up when I'm stressed & I did a course & found it most beneficial.

It does sound as if you are a strong person who is trying to get out there & you are doing well. Exercise of any kind is really really helpful. Maybe you could try that. Again I always think it would be better if you could manage to join a class.

Do you work? If you have time on your hands you could look at things that could occupy you. Sometimes it is as if we can spend too much time worrying about things that don't happen when really we should just concentrate on what we are doing in the moment. That is what Mindfullness teaches you to do.
