Well there are two potential issues, the alarm looks for the battery voltage AND it's internal battery.

If the internal backup battery goes, the alarm starts sounding using the car battery for power. If the car battery voltage drops, it detects this and sounds the alarm, running the car battery flat followed by the internal backup battery.

Basically if your car battery is more than 3 years old and given what you've said above, then replace it, don't keep trying to charge it, I can show you photos of what happens when you keep trying to squeeze more life out of a failing car battery.... It's basically a hydrogen fueled shower of molten plastic, acid and lead.

Battery flat again this morning :(. So I have been out and replaced it .... only for the alarm to go off again a few hours later

The quest for the cause of the alarm continues ... and we will have to wait and see whether the battery retains its charge - getting ahead of myself, but if it flattens what could be the cause of that? And any ideas further causes for the alarm and how to solve it please?

Have you checked the rear windows? Either that or get someone on with Tech 2, otherwise we going round in circles.

Thank you for your reply - no obvious signs on rear window panel/broken seals etc. It may be that it will just take a while for the alarm to settle (siren backup may need monger to recharge) as the flashing light in the centre does seem to be working correctly now (slow rather than rapid flash). I did ask at the garage about connecting a Tech 2 but he said I would be wasting my money. If I have continued problems I may have to insist on spending more money to check - there is no cheap/free way for checking fault codes is there?

Fingers crossed for a quiet alarm :).

Lock the car without setting the alarm (as I mentioned) if the battery gets run down then the alarm is a symptom of something draining the battery.

A visual check is not good enough, you need to do a continuity check, it will the only cost is your time so effectively free.

Clearly your garage does not understand Tech 2 as it can go into VX systems (where appropriate to the car) and identity the issue.
  • Hi, I am having the same problem! Did you ever work this out?

Yes :). I got an Op-Com reading that indicated a rear window sensor issue.

To solve, there are apparently two main options, spend on a new window (hundreds) or take the window out of the loop. I took the second option and linked the two sensor connectors.

I posted a fuller answer on solving my issues on the Vauxhall Owners network forum:

    http://www.vauxhallownersnetwork.co.uk/index.php?threads/zafira-b-alarm-problem-help-me.424095/

As an interim measure, closing all doors, opening rear drivers side door, leaning through and pressing the central console button to lock the doors, then closing the back door locked all doors but meant the alarm did not go off randomly.
