Zafira B 2006 SRi Power Sounder/Siren Issue
I wonder if anyone can help please. My alarm keeps going off on my Zafira randomly including in the early hours, which is annoying neighbours (and us!).
I have searched online and it seems it could be the battery in the Power Sounder/Siren going. However, I cannot find the siren
.
It is a Zafira B Sri 2006 and it does not appear to be in either left or right front wing (accessed through the wheel arch, removing the inner cover) referred to by some guides and I cannot see it under the front right, or indeed left, of the "scuttle panel" which an online supplier refers to (http://www.courtenaysport.co.uk/buy-online/shop-by-category/accessories/alarm-siren-oem-rhd-astra-h-zafira-b/prod_1297.html - which I assume is the bit under the bonnet near the windsceen wipers).
Does anyone have any ideas exactly where it is located please? I see I can buy the replacement part online at various places including the supplier above or ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-VECTRA-C-SRI-ALARM-SIREN-GM-12762811-ASTRA-H-ZAFIRA-B-/221418363929?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item338d901c19&clk_rvr_id=861141657318&afsrc=1&rmvSB=true (or if the guideas are correct, replace the battery with some faffying about) but not if I cannot find it to start with
.
Many thanks

Why not park somewhere in the middle of nowhere and set the alarm off and see if you can then pinpoint exactly where the sounder unit is.0

Thank you for the suggestion, I had tried that but it is so loud with the bonnet up that you cannot spot exactly where it is coming from apart from being somewhere near the bonnet.

Thank you for checking. Sadly indeed as that is a Zarifa A not a Zafira B - a different model with a different location for the alarm as I explained in my original post. I followed those instructions on both wheel arches (just in case) but no sign of it that I can see.
I have searched extensively before asking on here - the Zafira B alarm is in a different location but I cannot find it, hence asking you knowledgeable folk on here :A.0 -
Any further ideas please? I still cannot find it

Update - eventually found it - the sounder is in a completely different location to where some of the online guides said it would be. It is located inside the engine compartment, under the plastic around the windscreen wipers (referred to as a plastic scuttle online) on the DRIVERS SIDE. You get to it by removing the scuttle (simply pulls off), removing the windsreen wiper then the corner plastic section then get your windscreen wipers in the right place to give space to work. It then needs a 1/2 socket or spanner to remove the two bolts and the wire loom then pulls out of the back (remembering to switch the ignition on before pulling the wire out otherwise the alarm is triggered ... and you are deaf ).
The downside is ... that has not solved it  The alarm still works with the car horn so it is still secure. However, it is still going off randomly.
I am posting again on here on the off chance someone has any ideas how to stop it/mend it (obviously I can put the sounder back on as it is not that, once I have solved it going off!)? It does appear that if I leave it unlocked on the drive and it then locks itself, the alarm does not then go off - and when you set the alarm there is a rapid red light flashing in the middle of the dash (the button you use to lock the car doors when inside the car) which according to the manual indicates a fault, but any ideas please?

On my Toyota, you can stop it going off at 3AM by arming it twice in succession, the indicators give a long flash, and the internal volumetric sensor is disabled, but the doors still set it off.
You could also have water getting into a connector somewhere, usually from a leak where the windscreen is glued in at the bottom.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

On the Vectra C estate and Signum, the rear side windows alarm painted lines get damaged giving this issue, disconnect and measure the individual rear windows alarm contacts for continuity.0

Hows the car battery? Alarm going off can be one of the first signs that it's coming to it's end of life..... The siren detects changes in battery voltage.
As for the alarm unit, I cut mine open, de-soldered the battery and replaced it with an externally wired in battery pack consting of 4 AAA 600maH NiHM rechargables.
I wouldn't buy a used 2nd hand siren, the battery dies because of age.
In the meantime, you can stop the alarm going off by locking the car manually. Get out of the drivers door, open the rear passenger door, reach in and lock the drivers door, then close the rear door, this locks the car without setting the alarm.

Thank you for your replies.
Funnily enough, until today I have had no problems at all with the car battery and when I posted the message earlier. Yesterday we went on a long journey which you would think would make sure it was fully charged, Today when I eventually ventured out it did not have enough power to start the car  (it was making a clicking sound which online search suggested was a flat battery). I put it on charge briefly and it then had enough - but have tried again a few hours later and flat again.
So this flat battery could be connected to the alarm going off (even with the power sounder disconnected - lights flash and horn blares)?
On Zafira there isn't an internal lock for each door but a button on the central panel, so went in through the back, pressed that and then closed the back drivers side door and (so far) silence.
I have also read about the rear side panel window sensors being faulty; potentially the boot sensor being out of line (where is it please as it is possible it has been knocked when the kids or Mrs Anon have slammed it shut! I cannot even see a sensor around the boot?) or the bonnet sensor being out of line.
