I haven't subscribed to Prime but have noticed that things I've bought from Amazon which are free delivery do seem to be taking longer than they used to.

I've noticed this too, as if they're trying to push you into paying!

Not very MSE if you only need to spend a few pence more to get over the minimum spend barrier.

Sometimes it's cheaper to buy something extra for a couple of pounds than spend a greater amount on p&p.
    Depends on the spend.

Amazon can be very good for speed of delivery even for "free delivery" or "super saver" options, but if you order a lot that you need at short notice then prime is a real money saver, especially if you share it with a couple of friends :)

We needed a new shovel for Yesterday, Amazon did it for £20, Screwfix/homebase/local hardware store did it for about £30.
We ordered Sunday and it arrived Monday in time to be of use and saving us a tenner compared to buying locally.
Without the prime we would have had to pay for next day to make sure it arrived (and would still have saved a fiver over local pricing).

Aye, it's something I learned years ago when buying from Maplins and the like (it can be cheaper to buy a pack of 100 than 11 individual parts), it's part of the reason our garage is full of bolts/screws/spare fittings :) (and it's saved us a fortune in petrol over the years when something has been needed urgently and unexpectedly).

Even now I'll look at what's in my basket at various retailers and if say it's free shipping at £50 but i'm at £44.50 and shipping is a fiver I'll have a look round on the site for things that will be needed in the near future to take it to free shipping (for example if I know my next project will require something I may add it to the order and let it sit for 3 months).
