Having multiple anti virus programs on your computer (even though one of them is not working) will dramatically affect the performance of your machine.

Use revo uninstaller .. download it from here http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

On another computer and install in on your affected machine.
use it to completely remove AVG and malwarebytes from your machine.
    Full reboot
And see how things are then.

Why on another computer as I don't have access to another computer?

Maybe in case the existing AV progs try to block it? I dunno....

Give it a try anyway on your current PC. :)

What is the “Chkdsk utility” and where will I find it?

    Easiest way for you perhaps

    Double click My Computer
    Right click Local Disc C
    Click Properties
    Click Tools
    Click Check Now
    Tick automatically fix system errors
    Click start

You will probably get unable to run, do you wish to schedule to run at next start up.Click yes.

    Reboot and chkdsk will run.

May take a while , just let it complete.

Have used revouninstaller to remove Malwarebytes, (AVG is not showing having previously removed it).

Have run chkdsk and same problems as OP, nothing has changed, AVG and Malwarebytes will not install.

    No harm in trying this
Download the Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012 Update 4 package and run it. This will replace/restore the mfc110u.dll with the most recent copy provided by Microsoft.

You're given several download options from Microsoft for this update, based on the version of Windows you have installed - x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit). See Am I Running a 32-bit or 64-bit Version of Windows? for help if you're not sure what to choose.
