Problems with the following, (blue text is the Error box that comes up when attempting to open.)

AVG 2015

Avgui.exe – Unable to locate component

This application has failed to start because mfc110u.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

Mbam.exe – Application Error

The application failed to initialise properly (0xc000001d). Click on OK to terminate the application

I have uninstalled then reinstalled both but Malwarebytes gives same message as above.

AVG won’t allow me to do anything, double clicking does not work and when right click > Run as, it asks which user, current user, me,(only user), then click OK, I get, Unable to extract the set up contents. If you want to continue the set up, make sure you have Administrator rights, (can’t load config info

Malwarebytes is showing in "Currently installed programs", but AVG is not, I have restarted Firefox

Any ideas why and how to fix?

Am also having trouble installing/updating Adobe and Flashplayer as the install does not start.

OS = Windows XP
Firefox 39.0

    Reboot computer

    then

    Download and run AVG Remover

Page here http://www.avg.com/gb-en/utilities choose 32bit or 64bit depending on your OS.

    And for MalwareBytes

    https://support.malwarebytes.org/customer/portal/articles/1835311?b_id=6438

    Then try re-installing.

I have done system restore to 01st July, rebooted, now I can't access internet, (accessing now via smart TV), just get a dramatic tone, (can send and receive email).

Have used CCcleaner, (this is on my computer but will not be the most recent), rebooted still no internet just the dramatic tone and the same text box for AVG as in OP arrives even though I did not go to open it.

How can I get back online?

Seems there must have been a problem with Firefox 39.0, (downloaded/upgraded this on Friday and this is when the problems started re OP)

I got online via IE8 so I assume the problem was firefox.

I downloaded/upgraded firefox again only to get,”Couldn’t load XPXOM”, after a couple more tries I have eventually managed to get Firefox 39.0 working, however my OP problems still exist

    Have done all of this.

Using AVG remover I eventually end up with a window saying, “The file or directory C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVG2015\chjw\8afcb27cfcb2625d\avgcchfi.dat is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility.”

What is the “Chkdsk utility” and where will I find it?

Using Malwarebytes remover I eventually got what I put in my OP, “This application has failed to start because mfc110u.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.”

As I don't seem able to have Malwarebytes or AVG for some reason I have installed Avast, is this a good alternative?

    .

Avast is much better than AVG. PC will run quicker with Avast.
