Thanks for that I know that the channels ramp up fairly fast as you say I get 35 TV and 4 radio
A lot if them are repeats if same
As you say all BBC must be the damaged part
I had better let my 5 other elderly neighbours know I couldn't be their TV's so they would get some programmes
They are very elderly so at 73 I am just a baby BUT I am jack of all trades well mainly health problems They do keep me busy
Thanks for the explanation What would I do without you all ?
Thanks again

Wow, my father is in his late 60's and the concept of a forum confuses him to the point he can't use them!
As for missing BBC channels, Wimbledon wasn't that impressive and the news is same old, same old!0 -

Its likely the communal aerial is powered and has its own fuse. You're unlikely to receive any channels if the fuse has tripped but if you know where the communal fuse box is it may be worth checking.0 -
Thank you so much for your kind remarks I was a midwife so my skills here are not required BUT plenty to keep me busy Taught myself how to use my first desk top and have been known to teach some of a couple of the neighbours 10 years ago so they could get their groceries online email message etc Sadly they have died now
I did see the Tennis on my lap top BBC iPlayer Don't know what was going in the Murray suspect a bit if tit for tat
When that had the odd jump I used the iPad while it sorted itself out
A laugh was a couple if years ago I changed my mobile for a smart phone
I do Facebook too I don't see what my daughter writes but My SIL told me I Could kill the man who sold my mother that phone SHE will never be able to use it!
When I get stuck with anything like just now MSE is my salvation
What would I do without you!!!!
Thanks to all if you

With digital TV a whole bunch of programs get encoded in the bandwidth that an old analogue channel occupied. You'll get maybe 6 such program groupings. If the signal level is below par then all the programs carried on that particular channel will be lost.
If you are in a spot where the aerial can pick up more than one transmitter you'll get a bunch of channels that duplicate some from your main transmitter. Sometimes these are regionalised (BBC + ITV in particular).
The only reason I can think that you still receive some programs despite what I'm still pretty sure will turn out to be a damaged aerial amp is that their signal level is high enough to pass through the circuitry despite the damage, which may well not be a fuse but simply a blow front-end FET (transistor type). I'd have been more confident in pointing to the amp as culprit if there was no signal at all.
Of course this is probably all the babblings of a geriatric as I'm 65.0 -
[one of the first things I did yesterday am was check out whether there was a problem with the transmitters but there was no problem there This then led me to consider the aerial
I am going to check is a cupboard in the downstairs hall This isnwhere the electricity enters are for the individual flats
Our Manager will be in tomorrow morning
Tuning in I see two no which show Onenis 29 and then other 40 comes up
With 29 I get more programmes 40 only gives me 5
Will let you know whether I find any fuse box downstaurs Fuse box for each flat is in the flats
Thanks again Sue0 -
Bad to worse We had another storm T&L Now I am getting 9 channels It still has a poor signal Have to laugh it has been quite a weekend Never mind hopefully we will be sorted tomorrow

If you have anything you want to watch tonight, I'd consider either buying an indoor aerial or using your computer to watch what you want on catch-up. TV Guide has links to live TV channels - while the quality isn't fantanstic, it's better than completely missing something you want to watch!0

If it is the amp and you still get any programs at all it suggests the signal must be strong. It would be worth trying a set top aerial from Argos. If it works keep it as a backup in case there are more faults and if not take it back under the return guarantee (be careful unpacking so you can repack it OK).
I'd suggest http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2871794.htm as it is a proper log periodic antenna design and doesn't need any power for an amp which are pretty pointless on set top aerials anyway imo.0 -
Have you checked with the 'at800' website, it could be interference from a 4G aerial in your area.0
