Flight delay compensation

I was delayed on a flight from Bodrum to Newcastle by 17 hours. I've checked the delayed compensation page but can't find the section that refers. My flight was a distance of 2960km and the only section that refers to distance relates to flights over 3000km. Does anyone know what the compensation should be for a flight from non EU to EU and under 3000km should be? Should I be entitled to a flight ticket refund?
I've never had to claim before and find this totally baffling.:(

Please read Vauban's guide. Your questions should be answered.
Depends on date, airline, reason for delay etc.If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

Just work through the main mse advice http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/flight-delays
assuming it was after Feb 2005 and you were on an eu airline and flight stats confirm your arrival time was more than 3 hours later than you were advised, you can claim compensation (not refund of ticket value as you state) of 400 euros plus costs (if you didn't get meals, drinks etc) if it was the airlines fault, you seem to come under the 3+ hours section of the table in MSE advice , flights between 1500-3000 km0 -

Just to be clear: you have to start legal action in the UK within 6 years, or you have no recourse against the airline (and will be ignored). Plus you can't claim compensation if the cause of the delay was "extraordinary circumstances". You can claim the costs of meals and accommodation (if you have receipts) regardless of whether the delay was the airline's fault.0
