what's the damage, (last Septembers thread is a software problem, and requires a re-install, backup then hold down f4 when you boot the machine to get into Samsung's recovery solution).

The screen is damaged beyond repair.

Just to clarify, the below laptop is my best option then?

    Lenovo Essential B50-80 Laptop
    £330 from ebuyer

    Intel Core i5 5200U 2.2GHz
    4GB RAM + 500GB HDD
    15.6" + DVDRW
    Webcam + Bluetooth
    Windows 8.1 64bit

Best value for money for its specification with lenovo

There are other brand with similar spec between £350 - 400
    Dell Vostro 15 3549

    Acer E5-571

Not great reviews on the Lenova on the link below, got me a little concerned.

That has a nasty processor, the 2.16 GHz Intel Celeron N2830. Avoid Intel celeron based machines like the plague, it's cheap for a reason as it's a rock bottom processor.

Not the same spec. Only relevant bit is the design. I am amused by its comment about screen resolution.
All budget laptop are with 1366 x 768, so what?

The reviewer should have comment on the contrast level/ viewing angel when doing comparison. Not with the resolution and saying manufacture use cheap panel for a budget laptop.

If you want reviews for laptop, check out notebookcheck.net
    they are more 'professional'

    AMD are pretty good.

Both my tower and my laptop have them, and I've no complaints.

As this is a money saving site ...

have you considered DIY replacing the screen for £38.55 and a re-install described above (if necessary/desired). I have a replacement screen from this seller that has been in daily use for last 2 years.

or does 'beyond repair' mean a replacement screen not viable ?

The machine quoted to you earlier in this post is a good spec for the price, if you are unsure of that model then whatever you choose make sure it's at least an i3 grade processor:

then stick another 4GB/ 8GB RAM if necessary.
