I thought you couldn't be refused if not face to face assessed. Is that a myth?

AFAIK They only do face to face if they dont have enough information to make a decision on the claim

I'm not sure that's true. A friends son, also severely autistic (as is my son), with the mental age of a 6-12 month old was requested for a face to face assessment. His parents said it would be very difficult and cause problems for him and his behaviour so they cancelled the appointment and done it on paper only, giving both enhanced rates. So they clearly had enough info there.

Success! Enhanced daily living rate awarded & backdated to 27/5! I also put in a PIP claim due to my own mental health issues & I've just been awarded it too (I had the ATOS face to face)-backdated to 26/5! Fightback4justice (google it) have fab template letters for support from GP, psychiatrist, etc. I will donate to them (as they are a charity) as soon as some money comes in. Without those templates the result could have been very different.

That is true for ESA but not PIP.
