End of DRO credit settlement dates

Options
I recently got out of a DRO and signed up to Experian to check out my credit report and see what has to be sorted.

There are a few creditors that still have the debt as unsettled and owing every month.

I emailed Experian and they have sorted one of them out for me by getting in touch with the creditors, so one account has been settled. The others want me to write to them myself which is fine.

The question I have though is what date should the debt be marked as settled? Should it be the start date of the DRO or when the DRO expired?

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated if you want to offer it.

Thanks in advance.

The date the debts are settled is the end date of the DRO, not the date of approval

when writing to creditors include a copy of your approval letter, and if it still shows, the listing from the Individual Insolvency Register (it will be on there for 3 months after completion)

Ok thanks, I've got both of those ready to send off with the letters.

Same as WBA says. Write to them with a photocopy of original DRO and send listing from Insolvancy register showing that you have been discharged from this (Completed DRO). 9/10 companies are fine with this and will change it pretty quickly. Some stupid companies kept asking me for a discharge notice, which you don't get. I then did a dispute with the credit referencing and they managed to sort it out for me.

Yeah I've posted letters with copies of my DRO and insolvency register to both. Experian did say the one creditor wanted a letter from the insolvency service confirming the DRO had ended but as you say, and as I am sure they are well aware - the insolvency service doesn't provide such letters.

Hopefully I wont get any trouble off of them and my credit rating can start improving, it went up by 109 points after just one of the creditors amended my debt to be settled.

I mean it just ended in May (1 year)
  • You need to contact all 3 CRA's not just Experian! There was an account that showed on Equifax that did not on Experian for example but yes you are doing the right thing to tackle this full on now, rather then later

I asked Experian if the changes made to me report/rating with them would transfer to the other CRA's and they said yes.... regardless I'll check after everything is cleared on my report with Experian.

Surely the dro would be the last thing on all credit files, anything before that would obviously be included in the dro?

Why not just wait the six years?

That's not the way a DRO works.

The DRO does show on the credit report, and will stay there for 6 years.

But some of the debts included on the DRO have not been cleared by the creditors and are still showing as being owed and un-settled.

When a DRO ends it doesn't automatically clear the debts, it's up to the creditors to do this and if you look at anyone else here who has talked about their debts after a DRO you'll see that quite often the creditors don't update the debts and leave them as un-settled.

Sometimes creditors even put up a fight and try to refuse that the debt is cleared and still try to get it back off you.

I have to wait 6 years for the DRO to go off my file, but there's no way I'm going to leave the debts that the creditors have yet to mark as settled on there as still owing... all that is doing is damaging my rating.
